Winston Tower
The Winston Tower (formerly Wachovia Building) is a 410 ft (125 m) tall skyscraper in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, completed in 1966 with 29 floors. It was the tallest building in North Carolina, succeeding the Reynolds Building in Winston-Salem, until it was passed by Charlotte, North Carolina, Charlotte's Two Wells Fargo Center, Jefferson First Union Tower in 1971. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. After a 2003 renovation in which all 6,033 windows were replaced with tinted glass to save energy, the building received its current name. It has 436,000 square feet (40,500 square meters) of office space. As of 2009, Winston Tower is the second tallest office building in the city, behind 100 North Main Street; both have previously served as the corporate headquarters for Wachovia, Wachovia Bank. USS ''Winston'' (AKA-94/LKA-94) was an in service with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1957 and from 1961 to 1969. She was scrapped in 1979. History ''Winston'' (AKA-94) was named after counties in Alabama and Mississippi. She was laid down on 10 July 1944 at Kearny, New Jersey, by the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 216), launched on 30 November 1944, sponsored by Mrs. Benjamin Fairless, delivered to the Navy on 18 January 1945, and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 19 January 1945. World War II, 1945 ''Winston'' completed her fitting-out at New York and then departed on 3 February, bound for the Virginia Capes. She reached Hampton Roads the following day and, for the next nine days, conducted shakedown training in the Chesapeake Bay. The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the NASCAR, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), the most prestigious stock car racing series in the United States. The series began in 1949 as the Strictly Stock Division, and from 1950 to 1970 it was known as the Grand National Division. In 1971, when the series began leasing its naming rights to the R. J. ''Winston Science Fiction'' was a series of 37 American juvenile science fiction books published by the John C. Winston Company of Philadelphia from 1952 to 1960 and by its successor Holt, Rinehart & Winston in 1960 and 1961. It included 35 novels by various writers, including many who became famous in the SF field, such as Poul Anderson, Arthur C. Clarke, Ben Bova, and Lester del Rey.
