WeatherNation TV (branded on-air as simply WeatherNation) is an American broadcast, digital streaming, cable, and satellite television network owned by WeatherNation, Inc, a subsidiary of Performance One Media and ultimately owned by Robert J. Sigg. The network broadcasts live and pre-recorded local, regional, and national weather forecasts and weather-related news, including periodic coverage of severe and tropical weather events. The network's studio facilities, along with its headquarters and master control facilities are located in the Denver suburb of Centennial, Colorado, sharing production facilities with sister network Real America's Voice. Whether or Knot LLC, d/b/a AerisWeather, is a global weather RESTful API and tile mapping layer provider established by Paul Douglas, David Hubbard, Michael Vaughan, and Craig Mataczynski. It is based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The company is owned by Vaisala Group following an acquisition in late January of 2022. History Paul Douglas first had the idea for outsourced weather production in 1979 but shelved it due to the expected high cost, mostly for satellite feeds ($5 to $7 million a month). After being laid off from WCCO-TV in 2008, Douglas started WeatherNation, as broadband's growing availability decreased the costs. The Weather Cast
The Weather Cast was a short-lived television channel seen exclusively on Dish Network. The channel was devoted solely to weather forecasts from across the United States, and was a direct competitor to The Weather Channel (owned by NBC Universal, Bain Capital, and Blackstone Group). The service was owned by Minneapolis-based WeatherNation The channel was operated for only four days. Background The channel launched on Dish Network channel 213 on May 20, 2010. Paul Douglas is the stage name of Douglas Paul Kruhoeffer (born June 12, 1958), a meteorologist, author, entrepreneur, and software expert in Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota. He has over 30 years of broadcast television and radio experience. Early life and education Douglas Kruhoeffer was raised in Pennsylvania. His hometown is Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
