Wayne Logan
Wayne A. Logan is the Steven M. Goldstein Professor of Law at Florida State University College of Law. Logan teaches and writes in the areas of criminal law, criminal procedure, and sentencing. He is the author or co-author of several books, including ''The Ex Post Facto Clause: Its History and Role in a Punitive Society'' (Oxford University Press, 2022), ''Sentencing Law, Policy, and Practice'' (Foundation Press, 2022) (with Michael O’Hear), and ''Knowledge as Power: A History of Criminal Registration Laws in America'' (Stanford University Press, 2009). He is also the author of several dozen book chapters and law review articles, with work appearing in such publications as the Georgetown Law Journal, the Michigan Law Review, the Notre Dame Law Review, the Pennsylvania Law Review, the Texas Law Review, and the Vanderbilt Law Review. Florida State University College of Law is the law school of Florida State University located in Tallahassee, Florida. The law school borders the southeast quadrant of the University's campus, near the Donald L. Tucker Center, an arena and part of the Tallahassee civic center area. The College of Law campus consists of four major buildings, four historic houses around a green and five parking lots. It occupies two full city blocks and is directly across the street from the Florida Supreme Court and one block from the Florida Legislature. The school's most recent addition is its 50,000-square-foot Advocacy Center, which includes five courtrooms. American Law Institute
The American Law Institute (ALI) is a research and advocacy group of judges, lawyers, and legal scholars established in 1923 to promote the clarification and simplification of United States common law and its adaptation to changing social needs. Members of ALI include law professors, practicing attorneys, judges and other professionals in the legal industry. ALI writes documents known as " treatises", which are summaries of state common law (legal principles that come out of state court decisions). Many courts and legislatures look to ALI's treatises as authoritative reference material concerning many legal issues. However, some legal experts and the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, along with some conservative commentators, have voiced concern about ALI rewriting the law ''as they want it to be'' instead of ''as it is''.
