Wayamba University of Sri Lanka ( si, ශ්රී ලංකා වයඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලය, ta, இலங்கை வயம்ப பல்கலைக்கழகம்) is the thirteenth national university in Sri Lanka. It was established as the Affiliated University College of North Western Province in 1991 and after it was become the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka "Wayamba mandapa" in 1996.It was a full flagged university naming as Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in 1999. The main purpose of the university is offering English-medium degree, diploma and certificate courses (internal and external) in areas such as Agriculture, Applied Science, Management and Technology for students and working professionals. University Grants Commission is the body responsible for funding most of the State Universities in Sri Lanka, and operates within the frame work of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978. A public organisation, established under the Parliament Act No 16 of 1978. Location is at No 20, Ward Place Colombo 07. Sri Lanka University Games
The Sri Lanka University Games are a multi-sporting event held between public universities in Sri Lanka. History Inter-University sports championships have been organized since the latter part of the 1950s. The first University Sports Festival was held in 1980 at the University of Peradeniya in response to a suggestion made by the Director of Physical Education of the University of Peradeniya, Mr. Lesley Handunge. Mr. Lesley Handunge, a graduate of the University of Peradeniya himself, was a skilled sportsman who had represented Sri Lanka twice in boxing at the Olympic Games. Furthermore, as he had led the Sri Lankan team at the World University Sports Festival and at a number of other international sports festivals. Sevvandi Jayakody is a conservationist and echinodermologist from Sri Lanka, who is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Aquaculture & Fisheries at the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. Career Jayakody has a BSc in Zoology from the University of Kelaniya and a PhD in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen. She also has a diploma in Wildlife Management and Conservation from the Wildlife Institute of India. She joined the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation as an Assistant Director in 1997, followed post-doctoral research at institutions in Scotland, Canada and Australia.
