The Walt Disney Archives is the corporate archive for The Walt Disney Company. Established in 1970 by Dave Smith, the Walt Disney Archives is the official repository for Disney's history—which includes everything from corporate files to photographs, movie props and costumes, consumer products, and assets from Disney's theme parks. The Archives is also an official source for history of Walt Disney himself and the Disney family and was established "to collect, preserve and make available for research the historical materials relating to Walt and the company he founded." Dave Smith (archivist)
David Rollin Smith (October 13, 1940 – February 15, 2019) was the founder and chief archivist of the Walt Disney Archives, the corporate archive of The Walt Disney Company. Early life and education Smith was born on October 13, 1940, and raised in Pasadena, California—the son of librarians and educators. He appreciated Disney movies as a child and, having lived in Southern California, visited Disneyland Park frequently—even attending the park's annual Grad Nite event when he was a high school senior. Smith met Walt Disney once at Disneyland and asked Disney for his autograph. Disney politely declined (he didn't want to attract attention to himself) and told Smith to write to the studio and request an autograph. Disney Legends
Disney Legends is a Hall of Fame award that is awarded by The Walt Disney Company to individuals who "[have] made a significant impact on the Disney legacy." The honor was established in 1987, and was traditionally awarded annually during a special private ceremony. Since 2009, it has been awarded on a biennial basis during Disney's D23 (Disney), D23 Expo. Starting in 2024, the Disney Legends awards ceremony was moved from D23 Expo's traditional venue at the Anaheim Convention Center to the larger Honda Center down the street and was hosted by Ryan Seacrest. The Museum of Pop Culture (or MoPOP) is a nonprofit museum in Seattle, Washington, United States, dedicated to contemporary popular culture. Robert Alan Iger (; born February 10, 1951) is an American media executive who is chief executive officer (CEO) of the Walt Disney Company. He previously was the president of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) between 1994 and 1995 and president and chief operating officer (COO) of Capital Cities/ABC, from 1995 until its acquisition by Disney in 1996. Iger was named president of Disney in 2000 and succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005, until his contract expired in 2020.
