Wally Langdon
Christopher Walter Langdon (4 July 1922 – 2 May 2004) was an Australian sportsman who played Australian rules football and cricket at high levels. He played two seasons of senior football for in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL), and first-class cricket for Western Australia between 1946 and 1956. Langdon was born in Boulder, Western Australia. After moving to Perth from the Goldfields, he played two seasons of senior WANFL football for Claremont, appearing in five games during the 1946 season and two during the 1947 season. A left-handed middle-order batsman, Langdon made his first-class cricket debut for Western Australia in October 1946, playing against a touring English team. His Sheffield Shield debut came during the 1947–48 season, which was Western Australia's first in the competition. The Australian cricket team in England in 1948 is famous for being the only Test match side to play an entire tour of England without losing a match. This feat earned them the nickname of "The Invincibles", and they are regarded as one of the greatest cricket teams of all time. The team was captained by Don Bradman, who was making his fourth and final tour of England. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by a government-appointed board. Burnley Cricket Club
Burnley Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League based at Turf Moor in Burnley, Lancashire. The club was a founder member of the Lancashire League in 1892 and has won the League Championship 17 times, the Worsley Cup 10 times and the 20/20 Cup three times. The club has seen huge success in recent years including becoming the first Club to win the Worsley Cup four years in a row in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as enjoying a record breaking season in 2015 in which they won all four senior trophies; the league, the Worsley Cup, the 20/20 Competition, and the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy. The Lancashire League is a competitive league of local cricket clubs drawn from the small to middle-sized mill towns, mainly but not exclusively, of East Lancashire. Its real importance is probably due to its history of employing professional players of international standing to play in the League. The South Africa national cricket team toured Australia in the 1952–53 season and played five Test matches against Australia. The series was drawn 2–2, the first time a rubber between the two sides had not been won by Australia.
