WVSC (103.1 FM) is a variety hits formatted radio station known as "SC 103.1" targeted towards the South Carolina Lowcountry. History The station signed on in 1985 on 92.1 with a 3,000-watt signal broadcasting from St. Helena Island, about 10 miles east of Beaufort. Because it was so close to WSGA-FM WSGA (92.3 FM), known as "92.3 Thunder Country", is a country music radio station targeted towards Savannah, Georgia. It is owned by Richard Pope, through licensee WRGO-FM Radio LLC. The call sign and format were on its sister station WTHG, which ... on 92.3, the station was limited in its transmitter power. In 1999, the station swapped frequencies with WBHC-FM on 103.1 to get a better signal into Savannah. The station has difficulties reaching listeners in Savannah because of its inferior signal. West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public historically black, land-grant university in Institute, West Virginia. Founded in 1891 as the West Virginia Colored Institute, it is one of the original 19 land-grant colleges and universities established by the second Morrill Act of 1890, which evolved as a diverse and inclusive campus. Following desegregation, WVSU's student population slowly became more white than black. As of 2017, WVSU's student body was 75% white and only 8% African-American. The university's Gus R. Douglass Land-Grant Institute is divided into three programmatic divisions: WVSU Extension Service, WVSU Agricultural and Environmental Research Station, and The Center for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CASTEM).
