Connecticut Public Radio, commonly known as WNPR, is a network of public radio stations in the state of Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and eastern Long Island, affiliated with NPR (National Public Radio). It is owned by Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, which also owns Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). The radio network airs primarily news and talk from NPR along with several locally produced programs. It is headquartered with CPTV in Hartford, and operates an additional studio in New Haven. History In the early 1970s, WTIC in Hartford dropped its longtime classical music format in favor of adult contemporary music, and sold its library to CPTV. Looking for a way to put the library to use, CPTV decided to get into radio. WTIC (1080 kHz; "WTIC NewsTalk 1080") is a commercial radio, commercial AM broadcasting, AM radio station in Hartford, Connecticut. It airs a news/talk radio format, format and is owned by Audacy, Inc. The station's studios and offices are on Executive Drive in Farmington, Connecticut, Farmington. WTIC is a List of North American broadcast station classes, Class A clear-channel station with a transmitter power output of 50,000 watts, the maximum permitted for U.S. AM stations. Its transmitter, transmitter site is a two-tower facility off Deercliff Road in Avon, Connecticut. ''Morning Edition'' is an American radio news program produced and distributed by NPR. It airs weekday mornings (Monday through Friday) and runs for two hours, and many stations repeat one or both hours. The show feeds live from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m. ET, with feeds and updates as required until noon. The show premiered on November 5, 1979; its weekend counterpart is '' Weekend Edition''. ''Morning Edition'' and '' All Things Considered'' are among the highest rated public radio shows. The show was hosted by Bob Edwards from its inception until it was retooled for a two-anchor format in 2004 with the introduction of Steve Inskeep and Renée Montagne. Montagne left the show in 2016, and was replaced by Rachel Martin, who stepped down from daily hosting in early 2023. Morning Pro Musica
Robert John Lurtsema (November 14, 1931 – June 12, 2000) was a public radio broadcaster. Lurtsema hosted the classical music show ''Morning Pro Musica'' on radio station WGBH (FM) in Boston, Massachusetts, from 1971 until his death in 2000. He was known among public radio listeners throughout New England for his sonorous voice (which was "described as having the quality of warm fudge") and his phrasing, which frequently included long pauses. The pauses, anathema to mainstream radio, were either tolerated or loved by his loyal listeners. He said: "I'm not afraid of dead air. I don't think there's anything wrong with a quiet spot once in a while. When I pause I'm visualizing my audience, the person I'm speaking to. I always imagine I'm speaking to someone in particular." In broadcasting, a flagship (also known as a flagship station or key station) is the broadcast station which originates a television network, or a particular radio or television program that plays a key role in the branding of and consumer loyalty to a network or station. This includes both direct network feeds and broadcast syndication, but generally not backhauls. Not all networks or shows have a flagship station, as some originate from a dedicated radio or television studio. The term derives from the naval custom where the commanding officer of a group of naval ships would fly a distinguishing flag. Paul Kenneth Taff (January 21, 1920 in Belleville, Illinois – January 3, 2013) was an American television executive, executive producer, and television producer. His credits included ''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood''. WPLR (99.1 MHz, also known as "99.1 PLR" or Connecticut's No. 1 Rock Station). licensed to New Haven, Connecticut, is a mainstream rock station owned by Connoisseur Media as of May 10, 2013. The station's playlist includes rock music from the 1970s to the early 2000s. The station, which first went on the air in 1948 as WNHC-FM, has a history as a pioneer in the AOR format, with which it has closely identified since its inception in the early 1970s. The physical location of the station has also changed as the studios are now co-located with other Connoisseur radio stations on Wheelers Farms Road in Milford. Previously, the studios were located on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden and prior to that the offices and studios were located on Chapel Street in New Haven. WNYC is an audio service brand, under the control of New York Public Radio, a non-profit organization. Radio and other audio programming is primarily provided by a pair of nonprofit, noncommercial, public radio stations: WNYC (AM) and WNYC-FM, located in New York City.
