WRCN-FM (103.9 MHz) is a radio station broadcasting a news/talk radio format, licensed to Riverhead, New York and serving eastern Long Island. The station is owned by JVC Media LLC with studios located inside of Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, New York, and transmitter located in Manorville, New York. History The station first went on the air in 1962 as WAPC-FM. In 1967 the call letters were changed to WHRF-FM, and in 1972 to the current WRCN-FM. In 1978, WRCN changed from a top 40 format to what was then known as album-oriented rock (now known as classic rock). Some of the air–staff that have worked at the station over the years include, Zena Black, Bob Buchmann, Marc Coppola, John Loscalzo, Tim Sheehan, Dee Snider, and Chaz & AJ. WDRE (1570 AM) is a radio station licensed to Riverhead, New York. The station is owned and operated by JVC Broadcasting. History WDRE began as top 40 WAPC on August 8, 1963, to continue the signal of WPAC (1580 AM) to the east. It would later become WHRF as "Wharf Radio" and then the AM side of WRCN-FM in 1974 as WRCN. Five Towns College (2001–2024) The station occasionally broadcast live music performances from the Dix Hills Center for the Performing Arts and the other performance venues on the college campus. It also had a program called "Theatre of the Air," where students re-enacted the old days of radio through old radio dramas. The first of these events had so many on-line listeners, the station's server crashed. The station briefly went silent in January 2017 and resumed operations in January 2018. WBZO (98.5 FM, "La Nueva Fiesta") is a Spanish-language tropical music formatted radio station, licensed to Westhampton, New York, and serving eastern Long Island. History The station went on the air September 15, 1993, as WMRW, simulcasting the modern rock of WDRE (92.7 FM). Chaz & AJ in the Morning is a morning radio talk show program on 99.1 WPLR, a rock radio station broadcasting from Milford, Connecticut weekdays from 5:30–10 am. Though the show is mostly comedy based, it includes certain segments of more serious (and more important) things, including interviews with politicians and authors. Chaz & AJ recently won the 2016 NAB Marconi Award for Medium Market Personality of the year, a highly distinguished honor in the radio community. The show has won the New Haven Advocate award for best local radio show every single year for the past ten years. WLIM (1440 AM) is a radio station licensed to Medford, New York, broadcasting a Spanish news/talk radio format. History Originally licensed to Babylon, New York, the 1440 frequency signed on the air on Sunday January 5, 1958, as WBAB with 500 watts daytime only. Operated by Babylon-Bay Shore Broadcasting Company, the station initially played Jazz and featured a large news department as well as extensive community affairs programs. WBAB (and its FM signal on 102.3) switched to a pop music format before becoming a progressive rock station by the late 1960s. On October 14, 1975, the station's call sign was changed to WNYG (New York Gospel) after adopting a Gospel music format.
