WLPD-CD
WLPD-CD (channel 30) is a low-power, Class A religious television station licensed to Plano, Illinois, United States. Owned by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, the station carries its digital multicast channel TBN Inspire, along with a high-definition simulcast of Smile on its second subchannel. WLPD-CD is sister to Naperville-licensed TBN station WWTO-TV (channel 35); through a channel sharing agreement, the two stations transmit using WLPD-CD's spectrum from an antenna atop the John Hancock Center. History WLPD-CD was founded June 30, 1988 as W30AL. It used to simulcast on former sister station W24AJ (channel 24) in Aurora, before it was sold to Polnet in the summer of 2009. Plano, Illinois
Plano is a city near Aurora in Kendall County, Illinois, United States, with a population of 11,847 as of the 2020 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area, being about 55 miles (90 km) from Chicago. The city was home to the Plano Harvester Company in the late 19th century, as well as the Plano Molding Company more recently. In 2011, downtown Plano was used as a set for ''Man of Steel''. LocusPoint Networks LLC was an owner of television stations in the United States. The company is 99% owned by The Blackstone Group. After selling off most of their in 2017 and 2018 in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) spectrum auction and to other broadcasters, they owned one remaining station, WLEP-LD in Erie, Pennsylvania, whose license they turned in to the FCC effective February 12, 2019. One of the company's acquisitions, WMGM-TV, was rumored to have been purchased only to be sold in a spectrum auction in 2015. When the FCC auction finally occurred LocusPoint failed to successfully win a bid to sell the station's spectrum to the FCC. On June 26, 2017, LocusPoint Networks agreed to sell WMGM-TV to Univision Communications, through its Univision Local Media subsidiary, for $6 million. Ultra High Frequency
Ultra high frequency (UHF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range between 300 megahertz (MHz) and 3 gigahertz (GHz), also known as the decimetre band as the wavelengths range from one meter to one tenth of a meter (one decimeter). Radio waves with frequencies above the UHF band fall into the super-high frequency (SHF) or microwave frequency range. Lower frequency signals fall into the VHF ( very high frequency) or lower bands. UHF radio waves propagate mainly by line of sight; they are blocked by hills and large buildings although the transmission through building walls is strong enough for indoor reception. Smile (shortened from its former name of Smile of a Child) is an American Christian free-to-air television network owned and operated by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The network is aimed at children between the ages 2 to 12, and offers a mixture of children's religious and family-oriented programming. The network was founded as the television branch of TBN's ''Smile of a Child'' ministry, created by TBN co-founder Jan Crouch. Smile is also available on pay-TV providers as well as on some streaming services that offer TBN's six U.S. networks. LaSalle is a city in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States, located at the intersection of Interstates 39 and 80. It is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Sandwich, Illinois
Sandwich is a city in DeKalb and Kendall counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its population was 7,421 at the 2010 census and 7,221 at the 2020 census. History The town's history is tied to politician "Long John" Wentworth and his efforts to move the Illinois border with Wisconsin from being even with the bottom of Lake Michigan to its present location. If those efforts had not been successful, the state line would reside along the LaSalle-DeKalb County border, placing the incorporated community in Wisconsin. The community was established when Almon Gage sought a railroad stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad that ran through town. Originally naming it Newark Station (not to be confused with the nearby village of Newark) he and Wentworth worked extensively to create the community and also to get the railroad stop created. WPVN-CD (channel 24) is a low-powered, Class A television station in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The station is owned by HC2 Holdings. WPVN-CD's studios are located on West Belmont Avenue in northwest Chicago, and its transmitter is located atop the Trump International Hotel and Tower in downtown Chicago. History The station became a Retro TV affiliate for the Chicago television market on November 13, 2010 (through June 30, 2013), but the main purpose of the station is to relocate much of the ethnic programming removed by Weigel Broadcasting in December 2010 when they decided to end carrying it over to WCIU-DT6. Simulcast (a portmanteau of simultaneous broadcast) is the broadcasting of programmes/programs or events across more than one resolution, bitrate or medium, or more than one service on the same medium, at exactly the same time (that is, simultaneously).
