WGLI (1290 AM) was a radio station licensed to Babylon, New York. History Founded in 1958 by William Reuman the founder and owner of WWRL in New York City, the station went on the air on September 1, 1958, along with WGLI-FM. This made WGLI the first Long Island station to sign on both an AM & FM station on the same day. In March 1960, Friendly Frost Inc. (a Long Island-based appliance store chain) acquired WGLI Inc. from Mr. Reuman and his partners. Originally broadcasting with 1,000 watts, the station increased power to 5,000 watts in 1966 after being sold to new owner Martin F. Beck. Beck, along with his brother-in-law George H. Farmingville, New York
Farmingville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Brookhaven, in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 14,983 at the time of the 2020 census. The community serves as the town seat of Brookhaven. History The first settlement in what is now called Farmingville occurred in the late 18th century, and was called Bald Hills and Mooney Ponds, before it eventually was called Farmingville (though the soil and hills are not good for agriculture). The Keibel Family had a 72-acre fruit and vegetable farm from 1950 till 1982. It did not have its own post office until 1950. The home of Elijah Terry, the first teacher in the local school, was built in 1823 and sits next to the Bald Hill Schoolhouse, built in 1850. WNYG (1580 AM ''Radio Cantico Nuevo'') is a radio station licensed to Patchogue, New York, broadcasting a Spanish language Christian radio format. Its transmitter site and former studios are located at 45 Pennsylvania Ave in Medford, New York. History The station went on the air on December 4, 1951 as WPAC. Its first studios and offices were located in the Mills Building on Main St. in Patchogue. Transmitting facilities were located on the former Bailey's Mill property on West Ave. in Patchogue. In the early hours of February 10, 1956, fire destroyed the Mills Building, however, the station was able to continue broadcasting from its transmitter site off the Patchogue River until new studios were built at 31 West Main St in Patchogue.
