WARD (FM)
WJHT (92.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The station is owned by Seven Mountains Media, through licensee Southern Belle Media Family, LLC. This station was assigned the WJHT call sign by the Federal Communications Commission on July 13, 2006. History As WARD-FM The first station to use 92.1 MHz in Johnstown first signed on August 16, 1948, as WARD-FM, sister to WARD at AM 1490, and WARD-TV. As FM radio was still burgeoning and not very popular, it served as a simulcast outlet of its AM sister. This arrangement continued until the stations were sold in 1971 to the Jonel Construction Company (dba Cover Broadcasting). Shortly afterwards, the call signs for the AM station and the TV station were changed to WJNL, and the new owners were granted a construction permit to move WARD-FM to 96.5, which allowed a power increase to 50,000 watts. WFBG
WFBG (1290 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Top 40/ CHR radio format in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It transmits with 5,000 watts during the day, and 1,000 watts at night. WFBG's programming is also heard on 92.1 WJHT in Johnstown. History WFBG was first licensed on July 23, 1924, to the William F. Gable Co., owner of Gable's department store on 11th Avenue in Altoona, for 100 watts on 1150 kHz. The call letters were randomly assigned from a sequential list. Later that year the station moved to 1080 kHz, and as of the end of 1926 was reported to be on 1070 kHz. Following the establishment of the Federal Radio Commission (FRC), stations were initially issued a series of temporary authorizations starting on May 3, 1927, which moved the station back to 1080 kHz, which later that year was changed to 1120 kHz. It is owned by the CBS News and Stations group alongside KDKA-TV (channel 2), the market's CBS owned-and-operated station.
