Värmdö (island)
Värmdö is an island in the innermost region of the Stockholm archipelago and covers an area of 181.40 km², making it the largest island in the archipelago. Värmdö is after Gotland and Öland the third largest island on the eastern coast of Sweden. Värmdö lies in Stockholm County. Most of it forms part of Värmdö Municipality along with other islands, but the western end is part of Nacka Municipality, which lies mostly on the mainland, to which Värmdö is connected by a road bridge. Stavsnäs
Stavsnäs is a locality situated on the north east part of the island ''Fågelbrolandet'' in Värmdö Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 810 inhabitants in 2010. As there are numerous holiday homes in the area, the population is significantly larger during summer. Stavsnäs is located 44 kilometers from central Stockholm and accessible by road. Stavsnäs consists of three different parts; ''Stavsnäs By'' (the original picturesque wood-house village built up around the old harbour, dating back to medieval times), ''Stavsnäs Gärde'' (a modern housing area with detached houses and blocks of flats), and ''Stavsnäs Vinterhamn'' or ''Vinterhamn'' (the all-year ferry harbour connecting the nearby inhabited islands (such as Sandhamn) with the Stockholm bus transportation network). Värmdö Municipality
Värmdö Municipality (''Värmdö kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is in the town of Gustavsberg, with a population of 9,682 (2005), on the main island at an elevation of . The municipality is named after the main island Värmdön, in size. The municipality in its present form was created in 1974, when "old" Värmdö was amalgamated with Gustavsberg (which had been detached from it in 1902) and Djurö. Geography The municipality consists of 10,000 islands, all part of Stockholm archipelago. The larger islands are Värmdö, Ingarö, Fågelbrolandet, Djurö/Vindö, Svartsö, Möja, Runmarö and Nämdö. Nacka Municipality (''Nacka kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east-central Sweden. Its seat is located at Nacka. The municipality is situated just east of the capital Stockholm and the western parts are considered a suburban part of the city of Stockholm. The present municipality was created in 1971 when the ''City of Nacka'' (itself instituted in 1949) was amalgamated with ''Saltsjöbaden'' (itself detached from "old" Nacka in 1909) and ''Boo''. Gotland
Gotland (, ; ''Gutland'' in Gutnish), also historically spelled Gottland or Gothland (), is Sweden's largest island. It is also a province, county, municipality, and diocese. Öland
Öland (, ; ; sometimes written ''Øland'' in other Scandinavian languages, and often ''Oland'' internationally; la, Oelandia) is the second-largest Swedish island and the smallest of the traditional provinces of Sweden. Eva Ulrika Jonsson (born 16 August 1967) is a Swedish-British television presenter and model. She became known as a TV-am weather presenter, moved on to present the ITV show ''Gladiators'', and as a team captain of the BBC Two show '' Shooting Stars''. Strömma Canal
The Strömma Canal ( sv, Strömma kanal) is a short canal located near Strömma, on Värmdö (island), Värmdö island, Stockholm County, part of Värmdö Municipality in Sweden. Situation This short canal runs parallel to the Svanvägen Road and forms a relatively narrow and shallow connection across Värmdö Island, joining two fjords together, thereby allowing a short cut and safer route from Stockholm and other places to the outer Stockholm archipelago islands such as Sandhamn and Runmarö. A lifting canal road overbridge allows for the passage of larger powered boats and yachts across the Stavnäsvägen Road. Värmdö itself is an island in the inner Stockholm archipelago, and is the largest island in the archipelago. Current status The canal is in regular use and is utilised by the many private pleasure boats and such vessels as the MV ''Strömma Kanal'', a sizeable tourist boat that runs seasonally from Stockholm to the island of Sandhamn.
