VladiROCKstok '96 was the first major international music Festival in Vladivostok, Russia Russia (, , ), or the Russian Federation, is a transcontinental country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is the largest country in the world, with its internationally recognised territory covering , and encompassing one-eig ..., taking place on September 21, 1996. The festival was founded by two U.S. Executive Producers ( David Poritzky and Dan Gotham), Vladivostok's New Wave Radio and 21st Century Productions, along with a team of more than 100 staff and volunteers from Vladivostok, Seattle, and places in between. Other partners in the event included members of the production team of Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle (USA), and nearly a dozen corporate sponsors. Nine bands performed at the festival. Vladivostok ( rus, Владивосто́к, a=Владивосток.ogg, p=vɫədʲɪvɐˈstok) is the largest city and the administrative center of Primorsky Krai, Russia. The city is located around the Golden Horn Bay on the Sea of Japan, covering an area of , with a population of 600,871 residents as of 2021. Vladivostok is the second-largest city in the Far Eastern Federal District, as well as the Russian Far East, after Khabarovsk. Shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Aigun, the city was founded on July 2, 1860 as a Russian military outpost on formerly Chinese land.
