Vince Whibbs
Vincent John Whibbs Sr. KSG (February 8, 1920 – May 30, 2006) was an American automobile dealer, politician and businessman who served as the 54th mayor of Pensacola from 1978 to 1991. Whibbs was also very involved with many projects and groups in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida. He was invested as a knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope John Paul II in 1995. Personal life Vincent John Whibbs was born on February 8, 1920, in Buffalo, New York. Whibbs had a wife, Anna, and 7 children. He died on May 26, 2006, at the age of 86. Career Business career Whibbs worked for the Pontiac division of General Motors beginning in 1940. He held positions in Buffalo, New York, Charlotte, North Carolina, Jacksonville, Florida, and Pensacola, Florida. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Pensacola City Hall
Pensacola City Hall is located at 222 West Main Street in Pensacola, Florida, and houses the majority of the offices for the City of Pensacola government. The building faces Pensacola Bay and suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Ivan in 2004, reopening in 2006 after an extensive remodeling process. This is a list of mayors of Pensacola, Florida. The mayor is the chief executive of the Pensacola city government. This list is from 1820 through present day, and includes Spanish, Confederate and United States mayors. In 1878, Salvador T. Pons, the first African–American mayor of Pensacola, was elected. In 1885, the city's charter was revoked by governor Edward A. Perry, replacing it with a state-appointed government. In 1895, a new city charter was passed by the Florida Legislature, replacing Perry's Provisional Municipality of Pensacola with a new charter, which stated that Pensacolians could elect their own mayor and aldermen. In 1931, the city government was changed to a council–manager government, which it had until 2009, when voters approved a new mayor–council charter. Jerry Maygarden
Jerry Louis Maygarden (born December 22, 1948) is a former American politician who served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the 55th Mayor of Pensacola from 1991 to 1994. Politics Maygarden was a member of the Pensacola City Council from 1985 to 1992, and was Mayor Pro Tempore of Pensacola from 1989 to 1991. Maygarden was Mayor Pro Tempor at the time of Vince Whibbs' retirement from the office, causing him to become Mayor. Maygarden also served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives 1994 to 2002.
