Viking Serenade
MS ''Viking Serenade'' was launched as the cruiseferry MS ''Scandinavia'' in 1981. In 1985 she was renamed MS ''Stardancer'' and in 1990 MS ''Viking Serenade'' before being converted to a cruise ship in 1991. She became MS ''Island Escape'' in 2002 being renamed once more as MV ''Ocean Gala'' in 2015. She was finally renamed MV ''Ocean Gala 1'' before being scrapped in 2018. History She was built in 1982 by Dubigeon-Normandie S.A., Nantes, France for Scandinavian World Cruises (a subsidiary of DFDS) as the cruiseferry MS ''Scandinavia''. At the time of her construction, she was the largest cruiseferry in the world. After being withdrawn from Scandinavian World Cruises, she briefly sailed for DFDS Seaways. DFDS is a Danish international shipping and logistics company. It is the busiest shipping company of its kind in Northern Europe and one of the busiest in Europe. Cruiseferry
A cruiseferry is a ship that combines the features of a cruise ship and a Ro-Pax ferry. Many passengers travel with the ships for the cruise experience, staying only a few hours at the destination port or not leaving the ship at all, while others use the ships as means of transportation. Cruiseferry traffic is mainly concentrated in the seas of Northern Europe, especially the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. However, similar ships traffic across the English Channel as well as the Irish Sea, Mediterranean and even on the North Atlantic. Cruiseferries also operate from India, China and Australia. Härnösand () is a locality and the seat of Härnösand Municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden with 17,556 inhabitants in 2010.
