Vib-Ribbon
is a rhythm video game developed by NanaOn-Sha and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was released for the PlayStation in Japan on December 9, 1999, and in Europe on September 1, 2000. Although the original PlayStation version was never released in North America, the game was re-released on PlayStation Network in North America in 2014. The game was initially commissioned as an advertisement for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class car. After design issues surfaced with the car and the ad plan was dropped, development continued as a stand-alone game. Masaya Matsuura, the producer of ''PaRappa the Rapper'' and ''Um Jammer Lammy'', returned to lead ''Vib-Ribbon''. The game's software loads into RAM, letting the player use any music CD to play custom levels; the game can generate a unique level from any track on the CD. Mojib-Ribbon
is a music video game created by Masaya Matsuura as a spin-off of his 1999 music game, ''Vib-Ribbon'', which was released for PlayStation. A direct sequel called '' Vib-Ripple'' was released in 2004. The releases are comparable to the releases of the earlier '' PaRappa'' series (also a Matsuura series) where the original was followed by a pseudo-sequel and then a direct sequel a few years later. Whereas in ''Vib-Ribbon'' the gameplay centered on the player's interaction with the melody of the song being played, in ''Mojib-Ribbon'' the gameplay centers on the player's interaction with the lyrics. As such, the music employed in the game is heavily lyrics-oriented rap music. The game's art-style is centered on traditional sumi-e and Japanese kana calligraphy. Masaya Matsuura
(born June 16, 1961) is a Japanese musician and video game designer based in Tokyo, Japan. He was born in Osaka on June 16, 1961, and majored in Industrial Society at Ritsumeikan University. He has worked extensively with music and images, and has been active with the J-Pop band Psy-S. Matsuura has been credited with popularizing the modern rhythm-based music video game at his studio NanaOn-Sha. Career In April 1983, shortly after his graduation from Ritsumeikan University, Matsuura met singer Chaka (Mami Yasunori) and founded Psy-S. The band's first album, ''Different View'', was released in 1985. The group's musical style is a mixture of experimental synthesizer, electric guitar, and vocals.
