Vermilion Regional Airport
Vermilion Regional Airport is a public-use airport located five miles northeast of Danville, Illinois, Danville, the largest city in Vermilion County, Illinois. It is publicly owned by the Vermilion Regional Airport Authority. The FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021 FAA airport categories, categorized it as a ''general aviation'' basic facility. It was formerly Vermilion County Airport, under which name it opened in 1948. Airline flights began in 1950 on Ozark Air Lines, Ozark; Lake Central Airlines, Lake Central arrived in 1954-55 and Ozark left in 1961. Allegheny Airlines, Allegheny Commuter flights ended sometime after 1973. The airport currently gets has regular flights from Air Cargo Carriers and gets aerial agricultural flights as well. Danville, Illinois
Danville is a city in and the county seat of Vermilion County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 33,027. As of 2019, the population was an estimated 30,479. History The area that is now Danville was once home to the Miami, Kickapoo, and Potawatomi tribes of Native Americans. Danville was founded in 1827 on of land donated by Guy W. Smith and donated by Dan W. Beckwith. The sale of lots was set for April 10, 1827 and advertised in newspapers in Indianapolis, Indiana and the state capital of Vandalia. The first post office was established in May of the same year in the house of Amos Williams, organizer of Vermilion and Edgar Counties and a prominent Danville citizen. Williams and Beckwith drew up the first plat map; the city was named after Dan Beckwith at Williams' suggestion, although Beckwith suggested the names "Williamsburg" and "Williamstown".
