Vaudreuil—Soulanges is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1914 to 1968 and since 1997. It consists of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality. The neighbouring ridings are Argenteuil—La Petite-Nation, Lac-Saint-Louis, Salaberry—Suroît, Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry, and Glengarry—Prescott—Russell. Profile In recent electoral history, the Liberals have been dominant after taking the riding from the NDP in 2015. Their strength comes particularly from Vaudreuil, Dorion and Ile Perrot. The Bloc has its best showings in the south of the constituency, in Les Cèdres, with pockets in Vaudreuil and Rigaud. Peter Schiefke
Peter Schiefke (born April 13, 1979) is a Canadian environmentalist and Liberal politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Vaudreuil—Soulanges in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. Biography Peter Schiefke spent his early childhood in Hudson, Quebec and subsequently moved onto the island of Montreal where he attended and graduated from Rosemount High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Concordia University and a Master of Science in Renewable Resources from McGill University. He was a member of the Quebec pop group INMOTION in September 2000. This group had some success in the early 2000s and appeared on the Radio-Canada television program La Fureur. Jamie Nicholls (politician)
Jamie Nicholls (born October 15, 1971) is a Canadian social democrat and politician. He was a New Democratic Party Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2015 and was later the mayor of Hudson, Quebec. Born in Montreal and raised in Hudson, Nicholls attended both St-Thomas elementary and Hudson High School. He became a New Democrat while enrolled at Malaspina College (now Vancouver Island University) in Nanaimo, BC at the age of 18. He graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts in 1995. During that period, he was an outspoken social and environmental activist in Victoria, BC. Vaudreuil-Dorion
Vaudreuil-Dorion () is a suburb of Greater Montreal, in the Montérégie region of southwestern Quebec, Canada. The result of the merger of two towns, Vaudreuil and Dorion, it is located in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality. History On 23 November 1702, governor of New France Louis-Hector de Callière gave a seigneury to Philippe de Vaudreuil, who was governor of Montreal at the time. Rigaud de Vaudreuil later became governor of New France. In 1725, the region had only 38 inhabitants. About 1742 people began to be interested in the region and Vaudreuil's population rose. 381 people lived in Vaudreuil in 1765. With the creation of the Grand Trunk Railway, people began to live in Dorion, which was called Vaudreuil Station. Dorion became a village in 1891. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Salaberry—Suroît is a federal electoral district in Quebec. It encompasses a portion of Quebec formerly included in the electoral districts of Beauharnois—Salaberry (76%) and Vaudreuil-Soulanges (24%).
