Vushtrri
Vushtrri ( sq-definite, Vushtrria; sr-Cyrl, Вучитрн, ''Vučitrn'') is a List of cities in Kosovo, city and Municipalities of Kosovo, municipality located in the District of Mitrovica, Mitrovica District in Kosovo. According to the 2024 census, the town of Vushtrri has 28,150 inhabitants, while the municipality has 61,500 inhabitants. Vushtrri is surrounded by the city of Mitrovica, Kosovo, Mitrovica to the north, Podujevë in the east, Obiliq in the south, Drenas in the south-west, and Skenderaj in the west. The municipality of Vushtrri has 67 villages. The main characteristic of the city is its cultural and historic monuments. The city's castle, stone bridge, public bath and fountain were built centuries ago and are the biggest attractions of the city. District Of Mitrovica
Mitrovica District (; sr-cyrl, Косовскомитровачки округ, ''Kosovskomitrovački okrug'') is one of the Districts of Kosovo, seven districts of Kosovo. Its administrative center and the largest city is Mitrovica, Kosovo, Mitrovica. The district borders on the District of Peja to the south-west, the District of Pristina to the south and east, and Serbia to the north and northwest. Old Hamam (Vushtrri)
The Old Hamam of Vushtrri (also known as the Gazi Ali Bey Hamam) is one of the oldest and most prominent monuments in Vushtrri, Kosovo. History Gazi Ali Bey Hamam is located in the old city center of Vushtrri, and was built by Gazi Ali Bey at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Public baths were included for both sexes. The technically sophisticated building is an example of a "Tek" hamam, including a large lobby covered by a massive octagonal dome, a second room for heating and cleaning, and two alcoves paved with white marble for each gender to bathe. A ''kurna'' (stone bath) in each alcove was supplied by the central hot water tank. The women's alcove is similar in design to that in the Hamam of Peja. Viciana
Viciana () or Station Viciano was a Roman road station ( mansio type) of unclear location, somewhere in Kosovo field. History Viciana was a stopping place for caravans that travelled the Lissus–Naissus route, one of the most important Roman roads. The route started from Lezha (Lissus) on the Adriatic coast, went through the Drin river valley, crossed through Dardania, and continued to Niš (Naissus). The location is unclear. It has been theorized to have been somewhere in the Kosovo field or in the present-day city of Vushtrri or its surrounding areas. In addition, approximately 4 km south of Vushtrri, in the village of Pestovë, there are the archaeological ruins of the Roman villa known as Vila rustica, Pestova (archaeological site). Vushtrri Castle
The Vushtrri Castle (; ) or Old Tower (; ) are city fortifications in Vushtrri, Kosovo. It was the seat of despot Đurađ Branković (1427–1456). Later chroniclers ( Ami Boué, Aleksandar Giljferding) are noted that the fort itself is derived from the times of Dušan, and that ''it is an old fortress with a tower in the middle of the town''. History The building of the fortress is traditionally attributed to the Vojinović brothers, to whom is also attributed the nearby Stone Bridge, while its style places it at the end of the 14th or early 15th century. Municipalities Of Kosovo
A municipality (; ) is the basic administrative division in Kosovo and constitutes the only level of power in local governance. There are 38 municipalities in Kosovo; 27 of which have an Kosovo Albanians, Albanian ethnic majority, 10 Kosovo Serbs, Serb and Mamusha, 1 Turks in Kosovo, Turkish. Podujevë or Besianë ( sq-definite, Podujeva or ''Besiana'') or Podujevo is a List of cities in Kosovo, city and Municipalities of Kosovo, municipality in the District of Pristina, Pristina District in Kosovo. Podujevë is the largest municipality of Kosovo since it covers and is located along a regional motorway and also has railroad passing through it, which links the area to surrounding regions. Vuk Branković
Vuk Branković ( sr-Cyrl, Вук Бранковић, , 1345 – 6 October 1397) was a Serbian medieval nobleman who, during the Fall of the Serbian Empire, inherited a province that extended over present-day southern and southwestern Serbia, entire Kosovo, the northern part of present-day Republic of North Macedonia, and northern Montenegro. Obiliq
Obiliq, ) or Obilić ( sr-cyr, Обилић, ), also referred to as Kastriot ( sq-definite, Kastrioti, ) is a town and municipality in Kosovo. According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) estimate from the 2011 census, there were 21,549 people residing in Obiliq Municipality, with Kosovo Albanians constituting the majority of the population. Name Prior to the Balkan Wars, the settlement was known as ''Globoderica'' (). Following the conflict, the settlement was incorporated into Serbia and renamed ''Obilić'' as part of the efforts to reunite Serbian lands in the early twentieth century when inhabited places within Kosovo were named after heroes from Serbian epic poetry.
