Gordon Voss
Gordon Owen Voss (February 25, 1938 – June 21, 2017) was an American politician and mechanical engineer. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, Voss received his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota. He served on the city planning and zoning commission for Blaine, Minnesota. Voss then served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1973 to 1989 and was a Democrat. On January 4, 1989, Voss resigned from the Minnesota Legislature when he was appointed chief administrator of the Minnesota Metropolitan Waste Control Commission. John (sometimes "Jack") Claus Voss (born Johannes Claus Voss; 1858–1922) was a German-Canadian sailor best known for sailing around the world in a modified dug-out canoe he named Tilikum ("Friend" in Chinook jargon). Initially a carpenter, Voss apprenticed on a ship voyaging around Cape Horn and thereafter lived primarily as a sailor. Johann Heinrich Voss (german: Johann Heinrich Voß, ; 20 February 1751 – 29 March 1826) was a German classicist and poet, known mostly for his translation of Homer's ''Odyssey'' (1781) and ''Iliad'' (1793) into German. Life Voss was born at Sommersdorf in Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the son of a farmer. After attending the Gymnasium at Neubrandenburg from 1766–1769, he was obliged to accept a private tutorship in order to earn money to enable him to study at a university. Isaak Vossius, sometimes anglicised Isaac Voss (1618 in Leiden – 21 February 1689 in Windsor, Berkshire) was a Dutch scholar and manuscript collector.
