Victor Kanevsky (dancer)
Victor Zoryevich Kanevsky (russian: Ви́ктор Зо́рьевич Кане́вский , born 24 November 1963 in Kiev, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union) is a ballroom dancer, coach, and choreographer. He emigrated to the United States in 1978 and, as of 2013, lives in Miami, Florida. Kanevsky won a number of dance competitions, including the Eastern United States, the Middle United States, and the California Star Ball Championships, the 1987 and 1988 titles of Ohio Star Ball Champion (of PBS television’s Championship Ballroom Dancing fame), as well as reached the finals of both the USBC (US Open Dancesport Championships) and La Classique du Quebec (Canadian Open Championships). He is the recipient of 2016 Millennium Lifetime Achievement Award highlighted for his achievements in promoting and training young dancers on June 25, 2016 during the Millennium Dancesport Championships in Orlando, FL . Maxim Staviski
Maxim Staviski ( bg, Максим Стависки, links=no, born 16 November 1977) is a Russian-born naturalized Bulgarian ice dancer. With partner and fiancée Albena Denkova, he is a two-time ( 2006– 2007) World champion, a two-time (2003– 2004) European silver medalist, and the 2006 Grand Prix Final champion. Denkova and Staviski are the first Bulgarians to medal at the World Figure Skating Championships. Career Staviski began skating at the age of four because his parents wanted to improve his health. He was initially a singles skater but at the age of 11 or 12, he broke his leg and his jumping ability declined. His coach recommended him to Natalia Dubova's ice dancing group. He originally competed for Russia with Anastasia Belova, with whom he appeared as the third Russian team at the 1996 Junior Worlds but they split up at the end of the season. Chmerkovskiy is a two-time World Latin Dance Champion (Junior and Youth) and a 14-time U.S. National Latin Dance champion. Albena Petrova Denkova ( bg, Албена Петрова Денкова, born 3 December 1974) is a Bulgarian ice dancer. With partner and fiance Maxim Staviski, she is a two-time ( 2006– 2007) World champion, a two-time (2003– 2004) European silver medalist, and the 2006 Grand Prix Final champion. Denkova and Staviski are the first Bulgarians to medal at the World Figure Skating Championships. Career began her athletic career as a gymnast at the age of four, and switched to figure skating at about 8 or 9. She took up ice dancing when she was 12. With partner Oleg Ovsyannikov, she is the 1998 Olympic silver medalist and two-time (1998, 1999) World champion. She currently works as a coach and choreographer in Moscow, Russia. Competitive career In her early career, Anjelika Krylova skated with Vladimir Leliukh and Vladimir Fedorov. Oleg Vladimirovich Ovsyannikov (russian: Олег Владимирович Овсянников; born 23 January 1970) is a Russian former competitive ice dancer. With partner Anjelika Krylova, he is the 1998 Olympic silver medalist and two-time (1998, 1999) World champion. Career As a four-year-old, Ovsyannikov fell ill with pneumonia. After he recovered, doctors recommended to his parents that he enroll in some kind of sport, preferably in a fresh air environment. Initially a singles skater, he switched to ice dance at the age of 10. With Maria Orlova, he won the bronze medal at the 1988 World Junior Championships.
