Veronica Fraley
Veronica Fraley (born May 27, 2000) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw. Early life She is from Raleigh, North Carolina, and attended Wakefield High School. As a junior, Fraley lead the state in the Shot Put, Discus and Hammer Throw. She committed to Clemson University in October 2017. She later attended Vanderbilt University. Career She threw a personal best 53.57m in the discus at the Penn Relays in May 2018. That spring she also won the Bojangles Track and Field Classic and before the Pepsi Florida Relays. In June 2019, she finished second at the USATF U20 championships. She won the women's discus throw with a personal-best 62.30m at the USATF Throws Festival in Tucson, Arizona. In July 2022, she competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The women's discus throw at the 2024 Summer Olympics was held in Paris, France, on 2 and 5 August 2024. This was the 23rd time that the event is contested at the Summer Olympics. Summary Valarie Allman won the previous Olympics on her first throw. Since then Feng Bin won the 2022 World Championships, with 2012 and 2016 champion Sandra Perković pushing Allman to bronze. After marrying her coach in 2023, she now goes by Elkasević. In 2023, Laulauga Tausaga pushed Allman to silver, but Tausaga couldn't land a fair throw at the US Trials and was not here. 2019 World Champion Yaime Pérez was also the 2024 world leader but after defecting to the United States was not eligible to compete. An athlete is most commonly a person who competes in one or more sports involving physical strength, speed, power, or endurance. Sometimes, the word "athlete" is used to refer specifically to sport of athletics competitors, i.e. including track and field and marathon runners but excluding e.g. swimmers, footballers or basketball players.
