Veit Helmer
Veit Helmer (born 24 April 1968) is a German film director and screenwriter. He started shooting films at the age of fourteen. After finishing school he was trainee at German TV station NDR. Two month before the wall came down, he moved to East-Berlin to study theatre directing at the famous drama school "Ernst Busch". From 1991 to 1997 Helmer studied film directing at HFF Munich. His first feature film ''Tuvalu (film), Tuvalu'' (starring Denis Lavant and Chulpan Khamatova) earned more than 32 awards. His 2008 film ''Absurdistan (film), Absurdistan'' was premiered in Sundance Film Festival, Sundance and entered into the 30th Moscow International Film Festival. Denis Lavant (born 17 June 1961) is a French actor. He is known for his distinctive face and the physically demanding aspects of the roles he plays, which often involve slapstick, acrobatics or dance, as well as for his long-standing association with director Leos Carax. Lavant has played the lead role in all but two of Carax's films. Lavant is also known for his roles in Claire Denis' '' Beau Travail'', and Harmony Korine's '' Mister Lonely''. Chulpan Nailevna Khamatova (; ; , born 1 October 1975) is a Russian actress. Biography Early life and theater career Chulpan Nailevna Khamatova was born on 1 October 1975 in Kazan, Tatar ASSR, in what was then the Soviet Union. Her parents Marina Galimullovna Khamatova and Nail Khamatov are both engineers. Her name, ''Chulpan'', means "morning star" (i.e. Venus) in Tatar (she is of Volga Tatar origin). Plot summary After the death of her father, young Iva returns to a small village in a valley in the Georgian mountains and takes a job as a conductor on a small mountain railway. There she meets her colleague Nino. Every half hour the gondolas cross between the mountain and the valley, and a playful romance gradually develops between the two women. It begins with furtive glances and develops into special ideas such as water fights, costume dressing up and a romantic evening. The boss observes this friendship with suspicion, as he himself tries in vain to get closer to Nino. When Nino can no longer hide her plans to work as a stewardess for an airline from Iva, a conflict arises between the two, which is, however, again resolved playfully. Baikonur ( ; ) is a city in Kazakhstan on the northern bank of the Syr Darya river. It is currently leased and administered by the Russian Federation as an enclave until 2050.
