Vattu
Evan Dahm (born 1987) is an American webcartoonist from Asheville, North Carolina known for creating the Overside universe of webcomics. Dahm has also published a number of print-only graphic novels. Career Dahm started creating the surrealistic webcomic ''Rice Boy'' in 2006, which follows the titular Rice Boy as he travels through Dahm's constructed world. Once ''Rice Boy'' was completed in 2008, Dahm followed it up with ''Order of Tales'', a more traditional high fantasy adventure. In 2010, Dahm completed his second story and started ''Vattu'', a webcomic about a tribal girl forced into slavery. Dahm has written and published a number of books. He collaborated to create the '' Benign Kingdom'' series of art books between 2012 and 2016. He published illustrated re-releases of ''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'' and ''Moby Dick'' in 2014 and 2018. Ignatz Awards
The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks. SPX has been held in either Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Silver Spring, Maryland. The Ignatz Awards are named in honour of George Herriman and his strip ''Krazy Kat'', which featured a brick-throwing mouse named Ignatz. Awards criteria As one of the few festival awards rewarded in comics, the Ignatz Awards are voted on by attendees of the annual Small Press Expo (SPX, or The Expo, its corporate name), a weekend convention and tradeshow showcasing creator-owned comics. The Harrowing of Hell is a comic book written by Evan Dahm and published by Iron Circus Comics. Background The comic book was originally intended to be published in March 2020, but the COVID-19 Pandemic pushed back the publication date to July 2020. The story is a retelling of Jesus's descent into hell, otherwise known as the Harrowing of Hell, which was originally depicted in the Gospel of Nicodemus The Gospel of Nicodemus, also known as the Acts of Pilate (; ), is an apocryphal gospel purporting to be derived from an original work written by Nicodemus, who appears in the Gospel of John as an acquaintance of Jesus. The title "Gospel of Nicod .... The story contains flashbacks to Jesus's life as he descends into hell. Throughout the comic book Jesus answers questions with vague responses and an emphasis on storytelling, which leaves his own story open to interpretation. MoCCA Festival
The MoCCA Arts Festival, or MoCCA Fest, is an independent comics showcase that typically includes artist booths, slide shows, and educational panels. It was created by the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in 2002 by bringing together over 2,000 artists, publishers, editors and enthusiasts. It was named "Best Small-Press Comics Nexus Anywhere" by ''The Village Voice''. Since 2013, the MoCCA Fest is produced by the Society of Illustrators, following their acquisition of the Museum the previous year. ''Johnny Wander'' is a former webcomic written by Ananth Hirsh and illustrated by Yuko Ota. It was published bi-weekly. In its earlier days, the comic generally focused on slice of life stories involving Ananth, Yuko, and their friends and family following graduation from college. ''Gunshow'' is a 2008 webcomic created by KC Green. The webcomic is gag-a-day, having little overarching story and covering a large variation of topics with strong tonal shifts.
