Valikamam
Valikamam (; ) is one of the three historic regions of Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. The other two regions are Thenmarachchi and Vadamarachchi. Alternative spellings include Valikaamam or Valigamam. Etymology The name Valikamam () translates to "the sandy village", whereas denotes the geographical marker. Valikamam West
Valikamam West (; ) is a Divisional Secretariat of Jaffna District, of Northern Province, Sri Lanka. In official government records and statistical data, the division is referred to as Chankanai, after the administrative center. Etymology Although the modern Tamil words and can mean ''pain'' and ''lust'' respectively, the etymology of Valikamam is derived from the classical meanings of the words, as used in early Tamil inscriptions. Jaffna District
Jaffna District ( ''Yāḻppāṇam Māvaṭṭam''; ''yāpanaya distrikkaya'') is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka, the second level administrative division of the country. The district is administered by a District Secretariat headed by a District Secretary (previously known as a Government Agent) appointed by the central government of Sri Lanka. The capital of the district is the city of Jaffna. Valikamam North Divisional Council
Valikamam North Divisional Council ( ''Valikāmam Vaṭakku Piratēca Capai''; VNDC) is the local authority for Valikamam North DS Division in northern Sri Lanka. VNDC is responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. Jaffna Peninsula
The Jaffna Peninsula (, or ) is a region in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is home to the capital city of the province, Jaffna, and comprises much of the former land mass of the medieval Jaffna Kingdom. The peninsula was historically divided into the three regions of Vadamarachchi, Thenmarachchi and Valikamam, which today make up three regions of the Jaffna District. History Naga Nadu The Naga people were one of the ancient tribes of Sri Lanka, who were mainly concentrated in the Jaffna Peninsula. Thenmarachchi
Thenmarachchi is one of the three historic regions of the Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. The other two regions are Vadamarachchi and Valikamam. Thenmarachchi is sometimes spelt Thenmarachi, Thenmaraachi or Thenmaraadchi. This area, like the entire Jaffna peninsula, is populated mostly by Tamil people and was for many years under the de facto control of the "Tamil Tigers".
