Ute (band)
Ute is a British-Australian band formed by Ian Dixon on trumpet and keyboards and Wayne Elliott on bass guitar and keyboards. Their music has been described as acid jazz. Their album ''Under The External'' was nominated for ARIA Award for Best New Talent at the ARIA Music Awards of 1996 History British-born Ian Dixon and Wayne Elliott met in 1987 when both were students at Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music, while studying music. They formed a dance, jazz group, Switzerland and completed their studies. Dixon and Elliott relocated to Melbourne, where they formed Ute. The group recorded demos and found greater interest in the English market, hence they relocated to London in the 1990s. They issued their debut album, ''Free to Be... Free to Breathe'', in 1992 via 33 Records, with the pair co-producing. Ute Mountain, also known as Ute Peak or Sleeping Ute Mountain (; Ute: ''Wisuv Káruv'', Navajo: ''Dził Naajiní''), is a peak within the Ute Mountains, a small mountain range in the southwestern corner of Colorado. It is on the northern edge of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Reservation. The Reservation forms the southwestern corner of the state and of Montezuma County. Ute Mountain is a summit located in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. Description Ute Mountain is part of the Taos Mountains which are a subset of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The isolated landmark is the highest point of the Cerro del Yuta Wilderness and Rio Grande del Norte National Monument which is administered by the Bureau of Land Management. The remote mountain is situated 35 miles north of the town of Taos and four miles south of the New Mexico–Colorado border. Ute Mountain is a free-standing, dacitic, extinct Pliocene volcanic cone set within the Taos Plateau volcanic field. The Ute Pass is a mountain pass west of Colorado Springs that ranges from a peak elevation at Divide of at its lowest point. Geology About 75,000 years ago glaciers moved down the sides of what became Pikes Peak. Over time, the ground also thrusted upward. The combination of the change in terrain from the moving tectonic plates and the sculpting of rock due to the moving boulders created the steep canyons of the Ute Pass entrance. From the entrance of Ute Pass at Manitou Springs and for about 5 miles, the terrain is steep canyon land and the road has many curves. Ute People
Ute () are the Indigenous people of the Ute tribe and culture among the Indigenous peoples of the Great Basin. They had lived in sovereignty in the regions of present-day Utah and Colorado in the Southwestern United States for many centuries until European settlers conquered their lands. The state of Utah is named after the Ute tribe. In addition to their ancestral lands within Colorado and Utah, their historic hunting grounds extended into current-day Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico. The tribe also had sacred grounds outside their home domain that were visited seasonally. There were 12 historic bands of Utes. The Holden Ute was a coupe utility built by Holden, the Australian subsidiary of General Motors, since 2000.
