Upper Hudson River Valley
The northern portion of the Hudson River valley in Upstate New York, generally that region extending from the first town below the headwaters of the Hudson River at North River, New York, North River to the last substantive waterfall preventing the passage of vessels at Fort Edward (town), New York, Fort Edward. Downstream from Fort Edward, northbound boat traffic exits the Hudson River onto the Champlain Canal. The largest population center in the Upper Hudson River Valley is that of Glens Falls, New York, Glens Falls. Other towns include North Creek, New York, North Creek, Hadley, New York, Hadley, Lake Luzerne, New York, Lake Luzerne, Corinth (town), New York, Corinth, and Hudson Falls, New York, Hudson Falls. The region is characterized by a series of small glens and valleys surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains on all sides. Upstate New York
Upstate New York is a geographic region consisting of the area of New York State that lies north and northwest of the New York City metropolitan area. Although the precise boundary is debated, Upstate New York excludes New York City and Long Island, and most definitions of the region also exclude all or part of Westchester and Rockland counties, which are typically included in Downstate New York. Major cities across Upstate New York from east to west include Albany, Utica, Binghamton, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.
