Unleash (EP)
''Unleash'' is the second extended play by Japanese rock band Band-Maid. The EP was released by Pony Canyon on September 21, 2022, and contains eight tracks, including the lead single " Sense". It debuted at number nine on the Oricon Albums Chart, selling 7,590 in its first week. Background and recording The songs on ''Unleash'' were taken from compositions that the band had worked on over the previous two years. Composition and lyrics Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno stated that she tries not to listen to rock bands, so that she won't be inspired by them. "From Now On" originated because lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi wanted to have a new instrumental. The song includes orchestral elements. Bassist Misa wrote her bass solo on a keyboard. Tōno wrote "Balance" with an image of bouncy song, but that would also feel futuristic and experimental. Band-Maid
Band-Maid (stylized as BAND-MAID® until 2016) is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013, consisting of singer Saiki Atsumi, guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno, bassist Misa, and drummer Akane Hirose. The band combines a rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. They are currently signed to Pony Canyon, and their most recent full-length album '' Unseen World'' was released in 2021. History Early years The band formed in July 2013. Guitarist/singer Miku Kobato, formerly an employee of a Japanese maid café, envisioned forming a band that juxtaposed the maid image with rock music. Kobato recruited lead guitarist Kanami Tōno after an Internet search. Tōno had performed as a singer-songwriter and suggested her occasional backing drummer Akane Hirose for the new band. ''Unseen World'' is the seventh studio album by the Japanese all-female rock band Band-Maid. It was released digitally on January 13, 2021, with physical formats released one week later. It is the band's first album for Pony Canyon. The cover is a collage of the band members' fingers. The album reached the top 20 on the rock music charts in thirteen countries, and reached no. 1 on the ''Oricon'' Rock Albums chart in Japan. Composition and lyrics The lyrics for "After Life" are about the future and being born again. Bassist Misa wrote the guitar solo for "No God". The lyrics for "Manners" are about Band-Maid. "Sense" is the eighth single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on October 27, 2021, by Pony Canyon. The song was used as the opening theme song for the anime ''Platinum End''. Composition and lyrics They were approached to write "Sense" on New Year's Day 2021 and recorded it before summer. The lyrics are about the manga ''Platinum End''. They were given free range with the lyrics, except that they had to include the words "angel" and "premonition". The orchestral intro was not originally part of the song, lead guitarist Kanami Tōno composed it after the producers of the anime asked them to include it. "Hibana" was used in the Japanese e-sports competition game ''Rainbow Six Siege'', which the lyrics are based on. "Corallium" is lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi's first lyrical composition. The Oricon Albums Chart is the Japanese music industry standard albums popularity chart issued daily, weekly, monthly and yearly by Oricon. Oricon originally published LP, CT, Cartridge and CD charts prior to the establishment of the Oricon Albums Chart on October 5, 1987. The Oricon Albums Chart's rankings are based on physical albums' sales. Oricon did not include download sales until its establishment of the Digital Albums Chart on November 19, 2016. In November 2018, Oricon began to include streaming in its album rankings, introducing a combined album chart based on album-equivalent units. "Daydreaming/Choose Me" is the third single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid, released in Japan on July 19, 2017, by Crown Stones. Band-Maid made a cameo appearance in the 2021 Netflix film ''Kate'', playing "Choose Me". "Choose Me" was used in the third episode '' Better Goff Dead'' of the 2022 TV series ''Peacemaker''. Composition and lyrics Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno composed "Daydreaming after lead vocalist Saiki Atsumi requested a ballad. She was told to incorporate elements of tropical house and EDM and make it more like Band-Maid. Tōno wrote it on piano. It took about a month to arrange the music.
