''Underground Agent'' is a 1942 American drama film directed by Michael Gordon and starring Bruce Bennett, Leslie Brooks, Frank Albertson, and Julian Rivero. The film was released by Columbia Pictures. Plot Two U.S. government agents (Bruce Bennett and Frank Albertson) are assigned to prevent Nazi spies involved in a eavesdropping scheme from infiltrating into a Southern California war-defense plant. To help them in their venture, one of the agents invents an ingenious word-scrambler that eventually leads them to the German spies. Michael Gordon (film Director)
Michael Gordon (born Irving Kunin Gordon; September 6, 1909 – April 29, 1993) was an American stage actor and stage and film director. Life and career Gordon was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Jewish parents: Paul Luis Gordon (1876-1957), who was born in Lithuania, and Eva "Rachel" Kuhen (1885-1940), who was born in Russia. Michael was the second of three boys born to the Gordon family; first born was Bertram Ira Gordon (1914-1985), who was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and the third born was Leo Allenby Gordon (1919-2005). Michael Gordon was a member of the Group Theatre (1935–1940), and was blacklisted as a Communist in the McCarthy era. He later joined the faculty of the UCLA Theater Department. Gordon summered at Pine Brook Country Club in Nichols, Connecticut. Pinebrook is best known for becoming the summer home of the Group Theatre. Rosina Fiorini Galli (August 10. 1906 – December 3, 1969) was an Italian film actress in Hollywood. Early years Galli was born in Venice and was a member of "a typical Italian theatrical family". Henry Victor (2 October 1892 – 15 March 1945) was an English-born character actor who had his highest profile in the film silent era, he appeared in numerous film roles in Britain, before emigrating to the US in 1939 where he continued his career. Biography Victor was born in London, England, but was raised in Germany, he made his film debut as Prince Andreas in '' The King's Romance'' (1914). Rhys Williams (31 December 1897 – 28 May 1969) was a Welsh character actor. He appeared in 78 films over a span of 30 years and later appeared on American television series. Career He made his 1941 film debut in the role of Dai Bando in ''How Green Was My Valley'', a drama about a working-class Welsh family that won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Williams was the only Welsh actor in the cast. He is believed to have been the original narrator of the film, and was originally hired by director John Ford as a dialogue coach.
