Ulf Wallin
Ulf Wallin is a Swedish classical violinist and professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Life Born in Växjö, Wallin studied at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He began his career as a soloist and chamber music player. Later he taught as a visiting scholar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. Since 1996 he's holding a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. He has released more than 45 CDs, among others in 2011 and 2012 in two new recordings of R. Schumann's violin concerto. The Robert Schumann Philharmonic of Chemnitz under the direction of Frank Beermann played with him the concertante violin works (also the violin version of Schumann's cello concerto); he himself recorded with the pianist Roland Pöntinen the three violin sonatas. Violin Sonata
A violin sonata is a musical composition for violin, often accompanied by a keyboard instrument and in earlier periods with a bass instrument doubling the keyboard bass line. The violin sonata developed from a simple baroque form with no fixed format to a standardised and complex classical form. Since the romantic age some composers have pushed the boundaries of both the classical format as well as the use of the instruments. The early violin sonata In the earliest violin sonatas a bass instrument and the harpsichord played a simple bass line (continuo) with the harpsichord doubling the bass line and fixed chords while the violin played independently. The music was contrapuntal with no fixed format. Georg Philipp Telemann wrote many such sonatas as did Johann Sebastian Bach. The Royal Swedish Academy of Music ( sv, Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien), founded in 1771 by King Gustav III, is one of the Royal Academies in Sweden. At the time of its foundation, only one of its co-founder was a professional musician, Ferdinand Zellbell the Younger. The Academy is an independent organization, which acts to promote the artistic, scientific, educational and cultural development of music. Fredrik Wetterqvist is director of the Academy. The Robert Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau is a classical music award. Since 1964 it has been awarded by the Lord Mayor of Zwickau. Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau. Between 1964 and 2002 the prize was awarded annually, since 2003 biennially. The award is given to outstanding singers, instrumentalists and ensembles as well as musicologists and musical institutions, who have rendered special service (sic) to cherishing and presenting Schumann’s musical and literary heritage as well as to the knowledge of his life and works.
