USS Zelima (AF-49)
USS ''Zelima'' (AF-49) was an ''Alstedes''-class stores ship acquired by the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Her task was to carry stores, refrigerated items, and equipment to ships in the fleet, and to remote stations and staging areas. ''Zelima'' was laid down on 5 December 1944 at Oakland, California, by the Moore Dry Dock Company under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1212) as ''Golden Rocket''; launched on 2 March 1945; sponsored by Mrs. J. W. Greenslade; and delivered to the War Shipping Administration on 16 July 1945. She was operated by the United Fruit Co. under a contract with the War Shipping Administration for almost a year. Turned over to the Navy in the summer of 1946, she was renamed ''Zelima''; converted to a stores ship at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard; and commissioned on 27 July 1946. MARAD
Marad (Sumerian: Marda, modern Tell Wannat es-Sadum or Tell as-Sadoum, Iraq) was an ancient Near Eastern city. Marad was situated on the west bank of the then western branch of the Upper Euphrates River west of Nippur in modern-day Iraq and roughly 50 km southeast of Kish, on the Arahtu River. The site was identified in 1912 based on a Neo-Babylonian inscription on a truncated cylinder of Nebuchadrezzar noting the restoration of the temple. Pacific Fleet Service Force
Service Force, United States Pacific Fleet, usually known as COMSERVPAC, was a service support command of the United States Pacific Fleet from 1942 until 1973. It was the reincarnation of the former Base Force. The Service Force comprised the supply train of the fleet which includes Oilers (AO), Gasoline Tanker (AOG), Repair Ships (AR), Ammunition Ships (AE), Destroyer Tenders (AD) and Submarine tenders (AS). The Taiwan Strait is a -wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and continental Asia. The strait is part of the South China Sea and connects to the East China Sea to the north.
