UAAP Season 74 Volleyball Tournaments
The seniors' division of the UAAP Season 74 volleyball tournaments opened November 26, 2011. Tournaments are hosted by Ateneo de Manila University. Tournament games are held at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City. Usually held in the first semester, the UAAP Board decided to move the juniors' division tournaments on the second semester of the school year. In boys' tournament, the NU Bullpups and UST Tiger Cubs, which are tied at second place, played for the #2 seed with the latter winning the playoff. UE Junior Spikers successfully defended their title after beating UST in the finals. UE was awarded their tenth and eighth consecutive UAAP boys' volleyball championship. On the other hand, the La Salle Junior Lady Archers won all of their elimination round games in girls' division to clinch the championship outright. The Ateneo Blue Eagles are the collegiate varsity teams of the Ateneo de Manila University that play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere collegiate league in the Philippines. The collegiate women's varsity basketball team is called the ''Lady Eagles''. The Ateneo collegiate men's varsity basketball team was not always called the Blue Eagles. It got the name Blue Eagles when Ateneo adopted the ''Eagle'' as its mascot in 1938. Prior to that, from 1914 it was known under different names. Adamson Lady Falcons
The Adamson Soaring Falcons are the collegiate men's varsity teams of Adamson University that play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines which is the mother sports league of the ''Falcons''. The collegiate women's varsity teams are called the ''Lady Falcons'' while the high school varsity teams are called the ''Baby Falcons'' and ''Lady Baby Falcons''. The University's varsity teams also participate in other sports leagues such as the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, Fr. Martin's Cup, University Games, and Premier Volleyball League. Playoff Format
There are a number of formats used in various levels of competition in sports and games to determine an overall champion. Some of the most common are the ''single elimination'', the ''best-of-'' series, the ''total points series'' more commonly known as ''on aggregate'', and the '' round-robin tournament''. The UP Fighting Maroons are the collegiate varsity teams of the University of the Philippines, primarily off Diliman, which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country. The Fighting Maroons moniker, though, is more commonly used to refer to the men's basketball team (see Team monikers below). La Salle–UST Rivalry
The rivalry between the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers is contested at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Although the men's basketball rivalry had died down after the 1990s, it returned in 2013 as both schools again met in the UAAP basketball championship series. The rivalry had also been apparent in women's volleyball where the two teams are frequent finalists in the UAAP Volleyball Championship and the Shakey's V-League. History Prior to La Salle joining the UAAP the two schools met in the championship of the 1948–49 season of the National Seniors Open, a yearly tournament of top collegiate and commercial teams in the country.
