Union Of Radical Republicans
The Union of Radical Republicans (''Union des républicains radicaux'', U2R) is a list of political parties in France, French political party with its origins in the Radical faction of the Pôle républicain, Republican Pole, an organization rallying together supporters of Jean-Pierre Chevènement's candidacy for the 2002 French presidential election, 2002 presidential election. It included members of the Left Radical Party, including Emile Zuccarelli, as well as Republican, Radical and Radical-Socialist Party, ''Valoisien'' Radicals, including Gérard Benhamou, a former Union for French Democracy, UDF MEP. The U2R has since distanced itself from Chevènement's Citizen and Republican Movement (MRC), and supported François Bayrou's candidacy for the 2007 French presidential election, 2007 presidential election. France has a Multi-party system, multi-party political system: one in which the number of competing political party, political parties is sufficiently large as to make it almost inevitable that, in order to participate in the exercise of power, any single party must be prepared to negotiate with one or more others with a view to forming electoral alliances and/or coalition agreements. The dominant French political parties are also characterised by a noticeable degree of intra-party political faction, factionalism, making each of them effectively a coalition in itself.
