''Uma Tarde na Fruteira'' (Portuguese for "''An Evening at the Fruit Shop''") is the fourth studio album by the Brazilian musician Jupiter Apple; released in 2007 by Spanish label Elefant Records, it was the musician's final studio album to come out during his lifetime. Distancing itself from its predecessors ''Plastic Soda'' and ''Hisscivilization'', it is mostly sung in Portuguese and returns to the more "accessible" psychedelia of his 1997 debut ''A Sétima Efervescência'', in sonority terms. The album was re-issued in Brazil by Monstro Discos in 2008, with a different cover art and track list; while the original Elefant version is more of a compilation with some previously unreleased tracks in-between, Monstro's version contains only new tracks. Jupiter Apple
Flávio Basso (26 January 1968 – 21 December 2015), better known by his stage name Júpiter Maçã and by its English-language variation Jupiter Apple, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Before beginning a solo career in 1994, he was already known for being a founding member of bands TNT (Brazilian band), TNT and Os Cascavelletes, both pioneers of the Rio Grande do Sul rock scene in the mid-to-late 1980s/early 1990s. Marchinha
Marchinha (, also called "marchinha de carnaval", "marchinha carnavalesca" or "marcha carnavalesca) is one of several genres of music typical of Brazilian Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and Southeast Region of Brazil. The other main carnival genres are: samba-enredo, frevo, maracatu and Axé music. Marchinha is an extremely comic genre of music and the very name "marchinha" (little march) satirizes the seriousness of military marches, in both the musical and step senses, which are involved in the generalised satirization of the society that occurs during the carnival, for example the election of Rei Momo (King Momo, the king of carnival). The bands feature trombones, tubas, horns, clarinets, flutes and piccolos and percussion. Stereolab
Stereolab are an Anglo-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990. Led by the songwriting team of Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, the group's music combines influences from krautrock, lounge and 1960s pop music, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French. Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the Surrealist and Situationist movements. On stage, they play in a more feedback-driven and guitar-oriented style. Bossa Nova
Bossa nova () is a style of samba developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a "different beat" that altered the harmonies with the introduction of unconventional chords and an innovative syncopation of traditional samba from a single rhythmic division. The "bossa nova beat" is characteristic of a samba style and not of an autonomous genre.
