SR U1 Class
The SR U1 class were three-cylinder 2-6-0 ('mogul') steam locomotives designed by Richard Maunsell for passenger duties on the Southern Railway. The fifth member of the Maunsell "family" of standardised moguls and 2-6-4 locomotives, the U1 was the final development of the Maunsell mogul, and marked a continuation of the basic principles established by CME George Jackson Churchward for the GWR. Developed from Maunsell's previous SR U class design, the U1 class shared characteristics with Churchward's GWR 4300 Class. The U1 prototype was a rebuild of the unique 3-cylinder SR K1 ("River") class 2-6-4 tank locomotive, becoming operational in June 1928. The design was part of a drive to create a standard fleet of locomotives using parts interchangeable with other Maunsell-designed classes. The three smaller cylinders increased their route availability over the 2-cylinder U class.Banks, pp. 66-67 The K1 rebuild featured a variant of the Gresley conjugated valve gear, pre ... UNIONS 1
Ursa Major III / UNIONS 1 (UMa III / U1) is a dwarf satellite galaxy of the Milky Way or a stellar cluster. If confirmed as a galaxy it would represent the smallest and faintest galaxy ever discovered, containing only about 60 star systems as opposed to hundreds of billions. It was found by the deep, wide field Ultraviolet Near Infrared Optical Northern Survey (UNIONS), a collaboration between the Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope and Pan-STARRS (two observatories in Hawaii) and spectroscopically confirmed as a real satellite based on data obtained with the Keck Observatory's Deep Imaging Multi-Object Spectrograph (DEIMOS). Ursa Major III's discovery was announced in November 2023, with a paper appearing in ''The Astrophysical Journal'' in January 2024. It contains a metal-poor stellar population, indicating an extreme age of 11 billion years. Located about 32,600 light years away, it has a diameter of just 19.6 light years and is thought to contain only about 60 stars. Co ... U1 Spliceosomal RNA
U1 spliceosomal RNA is the small nuclear RNA (snRNA) component of U1 snRNP (''small nuclear ribonucleoprotein''), an RNA-protein complex that combines with other snRNPs, unmodified pre-mRNA, and various other proteins to assemble a spliceosome, a large RNA-protein molecular complex upon which splicing of pre-mRNA occurs. Splicing, or the removal of introns, is a major aspect of post-transcriptional modification, and takes place only in the nucleus of eukaryotes. Structure and function In humans, the U1 spliceosomal RNA is 164 bases long, forms four stem-loops, and possesses a 5'-trimethylguanosine five-prime cap. Bases 3 to 10 are a conserved sequence that base-pairs with the 5' splice site of introns during RNA splicing, and bases 126 to 133 form the Sm site, around which the Sm ring is assembled. Stem-loop I binds to the U1-70K protein, stem-loop II binds to the U1 A protein, stem-loops III and IV bind to the core RNP domain, a heteroheptameric Sm ring consisting of SmB/B', ... Unemployment
Unemployment, according to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), is the proportion of people above a specified age (usually 15) not being in paid employment or self-employment but currently available for work during the reference period. Unemployment is measured by the unemployment rate, which is the number of people who are unemployed as a percentage of the labour force (the total number of people employed added to those unemployed). Unemployment can have many sources, such as the following: * the status of the economy, which can be influenced by a recession * competition caused by globalization and international trade * new technologies and inventions * policies of the government * regulation and market * war, civil disorder, and natural disasters Unemployment and the status of the economy can be influenced by a country through, for example, fiscal policy. U1 (Nuremberg U-Bahn)
The U1 is an underground line in Nuremberg U-Bahn, Nuremberg. The first part of the line was opened on 1 March 1972. It is about long and has 27 stations. The termini are Langwasser Süd (Nuremberg U-Bahn), Langwasser Süd in the southeast and Hardhöhe (Nuremberg U-Bahn), Fürth Hardhöhe in the northwest. Until 11 December 2016 it shared tracks with the former booster line U11 between Eberhardshof and Messe. Those services are still run but no longer designated U11, instead being signed U1 like trains doing the full Langwasser-Hardhöhe run. Unlike U2 and U3 all trains are operated by a driver and there are no plans to automate U1. History Unlike in Munich U-Bahn, Munich where line designations were based on previous Trams in Munich, tramway lines – line U6 was the first to open, but designated number 6 based on a previous tram line 6 – or Berlin U-Bahn, Berlin where line numbers in the modern sense were only given out decades after the system opened and U1 and U2 do in ... U1 (Munich U-Bahn)
The Munich U-Bahn () is an electric rail rapid transit network in Munich, Germany. The system began operation in 1971, and is operated by the municipally owned Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG; Munich Transport Company). The network is integrated into the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV; Munich Transport and Tariff Association) and interconnected with the Munich S-Bahn. The U-Bahn currently comprises eight lines, serving 96 stations (100 stations if four interchange stations with separate levels for different lines are counted twice), and encompassing of routes. Alongside the S-Bahn, the Munich subway is the most important means of local public transport in Munich. Since the opening of the first line on October 19, 1971, a network with 95 km of track and 96 stops has been built, to which the neighboring town of Garching near Munich is also connected and in future also the Planegg district of Martinsried (both in the district of Munich).
