A commune (xã) is a type of third tier subdivision of Vietnam. It is divided into 11,162 units along with wards and townships, which have an equal status. Communes have a lower status than provincial cities, towns or districts. Facts Certain small villages are not officially regarded as administrative communes. Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Province
Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu ) is a province of Vietnam. It is located on the coast of the country's Southeast region. It also includes the Côn Đảo islands, located some distance off Vietnam's southeastern coast. From 1954 to 1975, under South Vietnam, the province was called Phước Tuy. District-level town (thị xã), a type of second tier subdivision of Vietnam is divided into 713 units along with urban district, district, municipal city, and provincial city have equal status. Also by virtue of Decree No. 42/2009/ND-CP, town are officially classified into Class-3 or Class-4. The towns may only be a capital of a province, but not of a municipality as the Second Tier unit. Phú Mỹ is a district-level town of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province in southeast Vietnam. the town had a population of 175,872. The town covers an area of 333.84 km². Phú Mỹ was formerly Tân Thành District, a rural district of Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province, with its district capital lying at Phú Mỹ township.
