''Tyrese'' is the debut studio album by American singer Tyrese. It was released on September 29, 1998 through RCA Records in the United States. The production on the album was handled by multiple producers including Ron "Amen-Ra" Lawrence, Tricky Stewart, The Characters, Derek Allen and Anthony Morgan among others. ''Tyrese'' was supported by three singles: " Nobody Else", " Sweet Lady" and " Lately". The album received generally positive reviews from music critics and was a commercial success. It peaked at number 17 on the US ''Billboard'' 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1999. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. Its members consist of record labels and distributors that the RIAA says "create, manufacture, and/or distribute approximately 85% of all legally sold recorded music in the United States". Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife songwriting-production team and recording duo of Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1941 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946). Ashford was born in Fairfield, South Carolina, and Simpson in the Bronx, New York City. Afterwards, his family relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he became a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church. While there, he sang with a group called the Hammond Singers (named after the founding minister, James Hammond). Later, Nickolas attended and graduated from Willow Run High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan, before pursuing his professional career, where he would ultimately meet his wife, Valerie. They met at Harlem's White Rock Baptist Church in 1964. Samuel Salter (February 16, 1975 – August 27, 2021) was an American R&B singer. Career Beginnings, LaFace Records and ''It's On Tonight'' Growing up as the second of seven children, Salter sang gospel music at Faithful Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles and won several local talent shows, with his vocal style that was influenced by Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. In 1997, after his demo tape found its way into the hands of L.A. Troy Christopher Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer best known for his production work and mentorship of R&B singer Trey Songz. Taylor is also the CEO of Songbook Entertainment, and has worked extensively with acts including The Isley Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Boyz II Men.
