Tursun Uljabayevich Uljabayev (russian: Турсунбай Ульджабаевич Ульджабаев; tg, Турсун Ӯлҷабоев; uz, Турсунбой Ўлжабоевич Ўлжабоев) (1 May 1916, Ghafurov, Ghafurov District, Sughd province, Tajikistan – 31 May 1988, Dushanbe, Tajikistan) was First Secretary of the Communist Party of Tajikistan between May 24, 1956 and April 12, 1961. Later life and death In 1961 he was accused of falsifying official documents related to cotton production and expelled from the Communist Party. He went on to work as a farm director and retired in 1986. History Shortly after the Soviet Union was formed in 1922 a position of First Secretary of the Communist Party was created in each Soviet Republic. The Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was created in 1924 as a subunit of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic and the first Acting Secretary of the Communist Party of Tajikistan was appointed that year. In 1929 Tajikistan received full republic status separate from Uzbekistan and in 1930 the position of ''First Secretary of the Communist Party of Tajikistan'' was created.
