The UMBC Retrievers are the athletic teams that represent the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, located in Catonsville, Maryland, in intercollegiate athletics as a member of the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the America East Conference since the 2003–04 academic year. The Retrievers previously competed in the Northeast Conference (NEC) from 1998–99 to 2002–03; and in the Big South Conference from 1992–93 to 1997–98; while they also competed in the Mason–Dixon Conference at the NCAA Division II ranks: the first variation of it from 1972–73 to 1977–78; and the second variation from 1983–84 to 1987–88. On March 16, 2018, the Retrievers men's basketball team defeated the #1 ranked Virginia Cavaliers in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. America East Conference
The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I founded in 1979, whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference has nine core members including eight public research universities, three of which, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont, are the flagship universities of their states. The two non-flagship university centers of the State University of New York are in the conference: the University at Albany and Binghamton University. Gary Stein
Gary Stein is a sportscaster currently living in Baltimore, Maryland. He broadcasts for CBS Radio and Terrapin Sports Radio in Baltimore. He hosts the weekly Gary Stein Show, every Saturday on 105.7 the Fan. In addition, he hosts the Maryland Terrapins' Toyota Tailgate pre- and post-game show on ESPN Radio 1300 and Sports Radio 105.7 the Fan. Bob Mumma
Robert S. Mumma (born March 16, 1971) is an American college baseball coach. He served as head coach of the UMBC Retrievers baseball team from 2012 season to 2019. Playing career Mumma played three seasons at UMBC as a catcher, earning All-Conference honors in his final season and setting several Retrievers offensive records. He remains the all-time home run leader at UMBC, and is tied for second in RBI all time. He was drafted in the 13th round of the 1992 MLB Draft. UMBC Retrievers Men's Soccer
The UMBC Retrievers men's soccer team represents the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college soccer competition. UMBC competes as a member of the America East Conference. History UMBC created its soccer team in 1968, three years after the founding of the university.
