TransAdelaide
TransAdelaide was a publicly owned corporation established on 4 July 1994 which provided suburban train, tram and bus services in Adelaide, South Australia, under contract to the Government of South Australia. It took over these responsibilities from the State Transport Authority. TransAdelaide operated local bus services in Adelaide until 22 April 2000. All metropolitan bus routes have since been transferred to private companies Light-City Buses, SouthLink and Torrens Transit. TransAdelaide continued to operate rail services under the Adelaide Metro brand. TransAdelaide was abolished on 31 August 2010 with its staff and functions were transferred to the newly created Office of the Rail Commissioner. TransAdelaide operated all suburban railway services in Adelaide on the Belair, Gawler, Grange, Noarlunga Centre, Outer Harbor and Tonsley lines. Adelaide Metro
Adelaide Metro is the public transport system of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is an intermodal system offering an integrated network of bus, tram, and train service throughout the metropolitan area. The network has an annual patronage of 79.9 million, of which 51 million journeys are by bus, 15.6 million by train, and 9.4 million by tram. The system has evolved heavily over the past fifteen years, and patronage increased dramatically during the 2014–15 period, a 5.5 percent increase on the 2013 figures due to electrification of frequented lines. Adelaide Metro began in 2000 with the privatisation of existing government-operated bus and train routes. The Glenelg tram line is the only one of Adelaide's tramways to survive the 1950s and the only one to be integrated into the current system. The State Transport Authority (STA) was the government agency which controlled public transport in South Australia between 1974 and 1994. History The State Transport Authority was established by the ''State Transport Authority Act 1974'', which aimed to provide an integrated and co-ordinated system of public transport within South Australia. This was to be achieved by assuming direct control of state-operated services (particularly in the Adelaide metropolitan area) and by exercising regulatory control of privately operated services. The STA was dissolved (and the 1974 Act repealed) as a consequence of th''Passenger Transport Act 1994.'' South Australian Railways Redhen Railcar
The Redhen railcars were a self-propelled diesel railcar built by the South Australian Railways’ Islington Railway Workshops between 1955 and 1971. The class remained in service until 1996 and are a nostalgic part of South Australian culture. 2000 Class Railcar
The 2000/2100 class were a class of diesel railcars operated by the State Transport Authority and its successors in Adelaide. They were built by Comeng in Granville, New South Wales in 1979–1980. History The 2000/2100 class were self-propelled diesel railcars operated by the State Transport Authority and its successors on the Adelaide rail network. The body shell design was based on the Budd SPV-2000, Metroliner and Amfleet cars but the 2000 class railcars have a slightly different curve to the Amfleet. Twelve 2000 powercars and eighteen 2100 class trailer cars were built. The bodyshells were built by Comeng in Granville. Glenelg Tram Line
The Glenelg tram line is a tram/ light rail line in Adelaide. Apart from a short street-running section in Glenelg, the line has its own reservation, with minimal interference from road traffic. The service is free in the city centre and along the route to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Hindmarsh. The service is also free along the length of Jetty Road, Glenelg to Moseley Square. Three routes in total operate on the network: Glenelg to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with select peak services that continue to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre; Glenelg to the Adelaide Festival Centre, which operates only on weekends and Adelaide Oval event days; and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre to the Adelaide Botanic Garden. Railways In Adelaide
The rail network in Adelaide, South Australia, consists of four lines (six including two short spurs) and 89 stations, totalling 132 km. It is operated by Keolis Downer under contract from the Government of South Australia, and is part of the citywide Adelaide Metro public transport system. All lines around Adelaide were originally broad gauge. The main interstate lines out of Adelaide towards Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Darwin have been progressively converted to , but the suburban system and a few freight-only branch lines to the north remain broad gauge. 3000 Class Railcar
The 3000/3100 class are a class of diesel railcars operated by the State Transport Authority and its successors in Adelaide. They were built by Comeng and Clyde Engineering between 1987 and 1996 and are the workhorse of the non-electrified suburban rail network in Adelaide. History In March 1985, the State Transport Authority (STA) awarded a tender for 20 diesel railcars (eight 3000 class units with a cab at each end and twelve 3100 class with a cab at one end only) to Comeng in Dandenong, Victoria. The design was based on the stainless steel shell of the Comeng electric train then in production for Melbourne's Public Transport Corporation, but longer and with only two doors per side. Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. It has nine platforms, all using broad gauge track. It is located on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. The Adelaide Casino occupies part of the building that is no longer required for railway use. MAN SL200
The MAN SL200 was a transit bus manufactured by MAN between 1973 and 1988, and was based on the first generation German VöV-Standard-Bus body design. More than 5500 units were built of the standard left-hand drive version. Torrens Transit is an Australian bus service operator in Adelaide. It operates some services as part of the Adelaide Metro network under contract to the Government of South Australia. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems, which is a part of the Kelsian Group.
