Tragic Hunt
''Tragic Hunt'' (Italian: ''Caccia tragica'') is a 1947 Italian drama film directed by Giuseppe De Santis and starring Vivi Gioi, Andrea Checchi and Carla Del Poggio. It was part of the wave of postwar Italian neorealism, neorealist films. It was one of two produced by the ANPI movement along with ''The Sun Still Rises'' from the previous year. Future filmmakers Michelangelo Antonioni and Carlo Lizzani co-wrote the script. The film's sets were designed by the art director Carlo Egidi. Plot After the World War II, Second World War, in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, a cooperative has been founded by peasants. War has destroyed the country. A group of bandits, with former Nazi-collaborator Daniela, known as 'Lili Marlene' (Vivi Gioi), holds up the truck where the money of the cooperative is travelling. Giuseppe De Santis
Giuseppe De Santis (11 February 1917 – 16 May 1997) was an Italian film director. One of the most idealistic Neorealism (art), neorealist filmmakers of the 1940s and 1950s, he wrote and directed films punctuated by ardent cries for social reform. He was the brother of Italian cinematographer Pasqualino De Santis. His wife was Gordana Miletic (native spelling: Miletić), a Yugoslav actress and former ballet dancer. Biography De Santis was born in Fondi, Lazio. He was a member of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and fought with the anti-German Resistance in Rome during World War II. He was first a student of philosophy and literature before entering Rome's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Umberto Sacripante
Umberto Sacripante (2 October 1904 – 14 January 1975) was an Italian film and stage actor. Life and career Born Umberto Sacripanti in Rome, Sacripante debuted on stage in 1921, and in 1926 he became first actor in the theatrical company Teatro degli Indipendenti directed by Anton Giulio Bragaglia. He made his film debut in 1930, and in a short time he became one of the most active character actors of his time. Thanks to his good knowledge of German language, he was also often cast in German and Austrian productions. He also worked as general organizer for the production company Cines, and also was secretary of the National Syndicate of Film Actors. Personal life Sacripante was married to Assunta Lelli. Francesco "Checco" Rissone (7 July 1909 – 26 September 1985) was an Italian film, stage and television actor. Life and career Rissone was born in Turin, the younger brother of the more famous Giuditta Rissone, Giuditta. He debuted on stage at a young age and often worked in the same companies as his sister. Graduating in economics, in the post-war years Rissone specialized in character roles, in films, television and particularly on stage, often working at the Piccolo Teatro (Milan), Piccolo Teatro in Milan under the direction of Giorgio Strehler. Vittorio Duse
Vittorio Duse (21 March 1916 – 2 June 2005) was an Italian actor, screenwriter and film director. Biography One of Duse's first roles was in Luchino Visconti's debut feature ''Ossessione'' (1942). Outside Italy, Duse is known for his role in ''The Godfather Part III'' as Don Tommasino in 1990, replacing Corrado Gaipa, who died one year prior to the film's release. Duse mostly starred in Italian films, although he also appeared in ''The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles'', ''The Sopranos'', and in '' When in Rome''. In 1989, Duse starred in the film ''Queen of Hearts'', and he won the Jury Distinction Award at the Montréal World Film Festival. Death Duse died on 2 June 2005 at the age of 89. Lili Marlene
"Lili Marleen" (also spelled "Lili Marlen'", "Lilli Marlene", "Lily Marlene", "Lili Marlène" among others; ) is a German love song that became popular during World War II throughout Europe and the Mediterranean among both Axis and Allied troops. Written in 1915 as a poem, the song was published in 1937 and was first recorded by Lale Andersen in 1939 as "Das Mädchen unter der Laterne" ("The Girl under the Lantern"). The song is perhaps best known as performed by Lale Andersen. In 2005, Bear Family Records released a 7-CD set ''Lili Marleen an allen Fronten'' ("Lili Marleen on all Fronts"), including nearly 200 versions of "Lili Marleen" with a 180-page booklet. ().
