This is a list of characters in the ''Tom and Jerry'' animated short series, given in the order of the era they first appeared in. Main Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse Tom (originally called "Jasper") is an adult bluish grey and white domestic shorthair tuxedo cat. He is usually, but not always, portrayed as living a comfortable and pampered life, while Jerry (originally called "Jinx"), a young brown house mouse, always living in close proximity to Tom. ''Tom and Jerry'' is an American Animated cartoon, animated media franchise and series of comedy short films created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Best known for its 161 theatrical short films by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the series centers on the rivalry between the titular characters of a cat named Tom Cat, Tom and a mouse named Jerry Mouse, Jerry. Many shorts also feature several List of Tom and Jerry characters#Recurring characters, recurring characters. In its original run, Hanna and Barbera produced 114 ''Tom and Jerry'' shorts for MGM from 1940 to 1958. This is a complete list of the 164 shorts in the ''Tom and Jerry'' series produced and released between 1940 and 2014. Of these, 162 are theatrical shorts, one is a made-for-TV short, and one is a 2-minute sketch shown as part of a telethon. 1940–58: Hanna-Barbera/MGM Cartoons The following 114 cartoons were directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in Hollywood, California. All cartoons were released to theaters by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Rudolf Ising was the producer of ''Puss Gets the Boot''; subsequent cartoons were produced by Fred Quimby through 1955. Quimby retired in 1955 and from 1955 to 1957, Hanna and Barbera produced the shorts until MGM closed the cartoon studio in 1957, and the last cartoon was released in 1958. Patric Zimmerman
Patric Laine Zimmerman (born October 10, 1954 in Los Angeles, California) is a retired American voice actor. Career Due to Daws Butler's death in 1988, he voiced Elroy Jetson in the 1990 film ''Jetsons: The Movie''. ''Tom & Jerry Kids'' (formerly known as ''Tom & Jerry Kids Show'' in the first season) is an American animated comedy television series co-produced by Hanna-Barbera and Turner Entertainment Co., and starring the cat-and-mouse duo Tom and Jerry as toddlers (toddler kitten and baby mouse). ''The Tom and Jerry Show'' is an American flash animated television series produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Turner Entertainment and animated by Renegade Animation. It is based on the ''Tom and Jerry'' characters and theatrical cartoon series created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The series first premiered in Canada on Teletoon on March 1, 2014, and began airing on Cartoon Network in the United States on April 9, 2014, but also aired on Boomerang in the U.S. Beginning in 2017, the series moved to Boomerang in the U.S. The fourth season was released on February 1, 2021, on Boomerang SVOD and on the Cartoon Network app. The fifth and final season was released on the Cartoon Network app, also on February 1, and on February 2, but the season has been removed from the app and has not been added back.
