Thomas Nelson Jr
Thomas Nelson Jr. (December 26, 1738 – January 4, 1789) was an American Founding Fathers of the United States, Founding Father, soldier and statesman from Yorktown, Virginia. In addition to serving in the Virginia General Assembly for many terms, he twice represented Virginia in the Continental Congress, where he signed the United States Declaration of Independence, Declaration of Independence in 1776. Fellow Virginia legislators elected him to serve as the commonwealth's governor in 1781, the same year that he fought as a brigadier general in the siege of Yorktown, the last battle of the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War. Early and family life Nelson was the grandson of Thomas "Scotch Tom" Nelson, an immigrant from Cumberland, England, who was an early pioneer at Yorktown. Thomas Nelson is a publishing firm that began in West Bow, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1798, as the namesake of its founder. It is a subsidiary of HarperCollins, the publishing unit of News Corp. Thomas Hudson Nelson (12 February 1856, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham – 5 November 1916, in Redcar, North Yorkshire) was a British ornithologist. He is best known for ''The Birds of Yorkshire'': ''being a historical account of the avi-fauna of the county'' (1907). Life Thomas Hudson Nelson was born on 12 February 1856 in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. He was educated privately under Marquis de Kervan. Due to health problems, Nelson was unable to continue his education. On doctor’s advice, he moved to Redcar, where his interest in birds grew. He traveled around the country with fellow collectors and ornithologist visiting classic bird sites. Nelson became an assistant editor of ''The Naturalist'', published many papers on the ornithology of Yorkshire and was an active member of the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union. Thomas Marsh Nelson (c. 1817 - 24 February 1884) was an English architect who worked principally in London. He was particularly active in the development of Westbourne Terrace in the 1840s on behalf of the builder William Kingdom. Early life and family Thomas Marsh Nelson was born around 1817 in London. His family were involved in slavery in the West Indies. He married Julia Satara Briggs, daughter of General John Briggs and Jane Dodson, on 10 November 1852 at St. George Hanover Square, London. Career In 1838 he gave evidence before the Select Committee of the House of Commons on Metropolis Improvements in relation to the need for new streets in the centre of London to improve traffic flow. Thomas Nelson FRSE (1822–1892) was a Scottish businessman who joined the family publishing firm of Thomas Nelson in 1839 at which point it was renamed Thomas Nelson & Sons. In 1850 he invented an improved rotary printing press. Life He was born on 25 December, Christmas Day, 1822, son of Thomas Nelson then a bookseller, and his wife, Margaret Black. He was educated at the High School in Edinburgh. Thomas joined his father's company on his 17th birthday in 1839. In 1844 the firm moved to larger premises in Hope Park in Edinburgh's South Side. The company began specialising in school text books. Thomas Junior moved to London in 1844 to open a new major branch there. He returned to Edinburgh in 1846. Thomas Horatio Nelson, 4th Earl Nelson (21 December 1857 – 30 September 1947), styled Viscount Merton until 1913, was a British peer, inheriting the earldom on 25 February 1913 from his father, Horatio Nelson, 3rd Earl Nelson. Born at Trafalgar Park in Wiltshire, he was the son of Horatio Nelson, 3rd Earl Nelson of Trafalgar and of Merton and Lady Mary Jane Diana (née Agar, 1823–1904). He was the son of Thomas Bolton of Wells, Norfolk, and Susannah Nelson, daughter of the Rev. Edmund Nelson. He was educated at Norwich High School and from 1807 at Peterhouse, Cambridge, graduating MA in 1814. He was the nephew of Admiral Horatio Nelson.
