Tijuana International Airport
General Abelardo L. Rodríguez International Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Internacional General Abelardo L. Rodríguez) or simply Tijuana International Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Internacional de Tijuana), , in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, is Mexico's second-northernmost airport after Mexicali International Airport. The airport is located in the city's Otay Centenario borough, immediately south of the US border. It is Latin America's 11th-busiest airport and the fourth busiest in Mexico after Mexico City, Cancun and Guadalajara airports. It handled 6,310,798 passengers in 2020, and 9,677,900 in 2021. The airport can handle up to 10 million passengers per year and 360 flights per day. With the opening of the Cross Border Xpress bridge and terminal on December 9, 2015, Tijuana airport can be accessed directly from the U.S.; passengers can walk across a bridge spanning the U.S.-Mexico border between a terminal on the U.S. side and the main facility on the Mexican side. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V. ("Pacific Airports Group, LLC"), known as GAP, is a Mexican airport operator headquartered in Guadalajara, Mexico. Agua Caliente is a historic entertainment center and present-day district of Tijuana, Baja California, at the southeastern end of the ''Centro'' borough. Servicios Aéreos Rutas Oriente, S.A. de C.V. (commonly known as SARO) was an airline based in Monterrey, Mexico. The airline was established in 1991 and had its first flight on March 18 of that year. Due to their low prices, SARO was one of the first low-cost airlines in Mexico and America. It operated scheduled and charter flights throughout the Mexican Republic. Aerolíneas Internacionales S.A. de C.V. was a Mexican domestic airline headquartered in Mexico City and had a hub in Cuernavaca Airport. Despite its name (translating to "International Airlines"), the airline never actually operated outside Mexico. History Aerolíneas Internacionales started operations in July 1994 with a fleet of two Boeing 727 under its President Luis Rodriguez Dorantes and his brother, Alfredo Rodriguez Dorantes. Aero California (at times shortened as ''AeroCal'') was a low-cost airline with its headquarters in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, operating a network of domestic passenger flights with its hub at the city's Manuel Márquez de León International Airport. History The airline was founded in La Paz, Mexico in 1960 as an air taxi operator using a fleet of Cessna and Beechcraft airplanes, initially known as Servicios Aéreos.
