Ticonderoga (ketch)
Ticonderoga, also called Ti or Big Ti, is a 72-foot (21.9 m) ketch, designed by L. Francis Herreshoff and launched in 1936 at Quincy Adams Yacht Yard in Massachusetts. She was known under the name of ''Tioga II'' until 1946. History ''Ticonderoga'' won many races, finishing first in 24 of her initial 36 races. She held more than 30 course records in multiple races. Scott Frantz (politician)
L. Scott Frantz (born June 29, 1960) is an American businessman and politician. He is a former member of the Connecticut State Senate. Early life and education Leroy Scott Frantz was born to Leroy Frantz, Jr. (1927-2002) and his first wife Ann (née Haebler; d. 1988) in Hartford and raised in Greenwich,Connecticut. His maternal grandfather, Dr. William T. Haebler, was the founder and majority owner of International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc. (IFF). His father Leroy was a former executive at the company, through which connection he met his wife. The name of Frantz' investment company is derived from his maternal grandfather. Leroy Frantz, Jr. later owned the Dutch airline Transavia, and Marina America, a large shipyard and boat repair facility, located in Stamford. He had two brothers, his twin brother died in a helicopter accident. Quincy ( ) is a coastal U.S. city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. Ketch
A ketch is a two- masted sailboat whose mainmast is taller than the mizzen mast (or aft-mast), and whose mizzen mast is stepped forward of the rudder post. The mizzen mast stepped forward of the rudder post is what distinguishes the ketch from a yawl, which has its mizzen mast stepped aft of its rudder post. In the 19th and 20th centuries, ketch rigs were often employed on larger yachts and working watercraft, but ketches are also used as smaller working watercraft as short as 15 feet, or as small cruising boats, such as Bill Hanna's Tahiti ketches or L. Francis Herreshoff's Rozinante and H-28. The name ketch is derived from ''catch''. The ketch's main mast is usually stepped further forward than the position found on a sloop. The Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race (MHOR) is a biennial sailing race which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005. It runs between Marblehead, Massachusetts and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Transpacific Yacht Race
The Transpacific Yacht Race (Transpac) is a biennial offshore yacht race held in odd-numbered years starting off the Pt. Fermin buoy in San Pedro, California and ending off Diamond Head in Hawaii, a distance of around . In even-numbered years the Pacific Cup race starts out of San Francisco and is run by the Pacific Cup Yacht Club. Started in 1906 by Clarence W. Macfarlane and hosted by Los Angeles Yacht Club, it is one of yachting's premier offshore races and attracts entrants from all over the world. The race is organized by the Transpacific Yacht Club. Sailing Yachts
A sailing yacht (US ship prefixes SY or S/Y), is a leisure craft that uses sails as its primary means of propulsion. A yacht may be a sail or power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. There is no standard definition, so the term applies here to sailing vessels that have a cabin with amenities that accommodate overnight use. To be termed a "yacht", as opposed to a "boat", such a vessel is likely to be at least in length and have been judged to have good aesthetic qualities. Sailboats that do not accommodate overnight use or are smaller than are not universally called yachts. Sailing yachts in excess of are generally considered to be superyachts.
