Joseph De Grasse
Joseph Louis De Grasse (May 4, 1873 – May 25, 1940) was a Canadian film director. Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, he was the elder brother of actor Sam De Grasse. Biography Joseph De Grasse had studied and was a first-class graduate of accounting and he began his career as a journalist, but soon became enamored with the theater and took work as a stage actor. In 1903, he quit his full-time job as the City of Boston's bookkeeper to pursue acting. In 1910, he acted in his first motion picture and although he would appear as an actor in 13 films, and write 2 screenplays, his real interest was in directing. While working in Hollywood for Universal Pictures, De Grasse met and married one of the few female directors working at the time, Ida May Park (1879–1954). In 1915, he became a founding member of the Motion Picture Directors Association, a forerunner to today's Directors Guild of America. During his career he directed a total of 86 films. Owen Moore (12 December 1886 – 9 June 1939) was an Irish-born American actor, appearing in more than 279 movies spanning from 1908 to 1937. Early life and career Moore was born in Fordstown Crossroads, County Meath, Ireland. Along with his parents, John and Rose Anna Moore, brothers Tom, Matt, and Joe, and sister Mary, he emigrated to the United States as a steerage passenger on board the S.S. ''Anchoria.'' The Moore family were inspected on Ellis Island in May 1896 and settled in the Toledo, Ohio area. Moore and his siblings went on to successful careers in motion pictures in Hollywood, California. While working at D. W. Griffith's Biograph Studios, Moore met a young Canadian actress named Gladys Smith, whom he married on January 7, 1911. Virginia Brown Faire (born Virginia Cecelia Labuna; June 26, 1904 – June 30, 1980) was an American silent film actress, appearing in dramatic films and, later, in sound westerns. Early years Virginia Cecelia Labuna was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Joseph Labuna and Martha Delsand. Other sources have her last name as La Buna. She attended Wadleigh High School for Girls. She was brought to Hollywood in 1919 after being one of the four winners of the '' Motion Picture Classic'' magazine's "Fame and Fortune" contest, which she had entered as Virginia Brown, using her stepfather's last name. Childhood and early career in Australia Sylvia Poppy Bremer was born on 9 June 1897 in the Sydney suburb of Double Bay, to Frederick Glasse Bremer and Jessie Bremer (née Platt). She had a sister named Doris, who later married actor William J. Kelly. Robert McKim (actor)
Robert McKim (1877 – June 4, 1927) was an American actor of the silent film era and a performer in vaudeville. He appeared in nearly 100 films between 1915 and 1927. He played the arch villain opposite Douglas Fairbanks's Zorro in '' The Mark of Zorro'' in 1920. Biography McKim was born in 1877 in San Jacinto, California and attended schools in San Francisco. He acted with stock theater companies in California, beginning with the Alcazar Stock Company, before he worked in films, beginning with the Ince and Triangle companies. McKim starred with Lon Chaney in the 1923 silent version of ''All The Brothers Were Valiant''. One of his last roles was again as a villain in the unfinished silent ''The Mysterious Island'', starring Lionel Barrymore based on the Jules Verne novel. Robert De Grasse (February 9, 1900 – January 28, 1971) was an American cinematographer and member of the American Society of Cinematographers. Over the course of his career, he was nominated for an Academy Award in 1939 and a Primetime Emmy Award in 1958. Career Born in Maplewood, New Jersey, his family worked in the fledgling movie industry. Robert De Grasse began his career as an assistant cameraman and then moved on to become a full-time cinematographer by the time he was 21 years old. He was also the nephew of Canadian Actor Sam De Grasse. He worked on over 100 movies including ''Vigil in the Night'' (1940), ''The Leopard Man'' (1943) and ''The Body Snatcher'' (1945) as well as classic television shows such as ''I Love Lucy'' and ''The Dick Van Dyke Show''. Tote Du Crow (also known as George Skyrock or Shyroch) was a film actor and circus performer who acted in many silent films during the early days of Hollywood. Biography Tote was born in Watsonville, California, to parents of Castilian and French origins. According to some accounts, as children, Tote and his brother Daniel ran away from home to join the circus; other sources say their father apprenticed them out to a circus showman.
