Thomas Troward
Thomas Troward (1847–1916) was an English author whose works influenced the New Thought Movement and mystic Christianity. Background Troward was a divisional Judge in Punjab in British-administered India. His avocation was the study of comparative religion. In psychology, persistence (PS) is a personality trait. It is measured in the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and is considered one of the four ''temperament'' traits. Persistence refers to perseverance in spite of fatigue or frustration. Cloninger's research found that persistence, like the other temperament traits, is highly heritable. Bob Proctor (born Robert Corlett Proctor; July 5, 1934 – February 3, 2022) was a Canadian self-help author and lecturer. He was best known for his ''New York Times'' best-selling book ''You Were Born Rich'' (1984) and being a contributor to the film '' The Secret'' (2006). Proctor's teachings maintained the idea that a positive self-image is critical for obtaining success, frequently referencing the pseudoscientific belief of the law of attraction. Proctor's teachings were a major contributor to the rise in prominence of the law of attraction, chiefly because of ''You Were Born Rich'' and ''The Secret''. Some experts worried that individuals may opt for Proctor's model of Positive Thinking instead of physical therapies or medical intervention. Geneviève Behrend
Geneviève Behrend (1881 in Paris – 1960 in United States) was a French-born author and teacher of Mental Science, a New Thought discipline taught by Thomas Troward. There is little known about her early life except that one of her parents was Scottish. After her husband died she traveled extensively. She studied Christian Science and met its founder Mary Baker Eddy, but ultimately left that faith. She met Abdul Baha, whose father had founded Baháʼí Faith, and he told her that she would “travel the world over seeking the truth, and when hehad found it, would speak it out”. She later wrote in her book ''Your Invisible Power'' that she found a book of Thomas Troward's lectures. Inspired by this, she wanted to study with Troward, but lacked the money to travel to Cornwall, England where he lived, as she was then living in New York. New Thought Movement
The New Thought movement (also Higher Thought) is a spiritual movement that coalesced in the United States in the early 19th century. New Thought was seen by its adherents as succeeding "ancient thought", accumulated wisdom and philosophy from a variety of origins, such as Ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Taoist, Vedic, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures and their related belief systems, primarily regarding the interaction between thought, belief, consciousness in the human mind, and the effects of these within and beyond the human mind. Though no direct line of transmission is traceable, many adherents to New Thought in the 19th and 20th centuries claimed to be direct descendants from those systems.
