Thomas Monaghan (hurler)
Thomas Monaghan (born 1997) is an Irish hurling, hurler who currently plays as left wing-forward for the Galway GAA, Galway senior team. Born in Craughwell, County Galway, Monaghan first played competitive hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Craughwell GAA, Craughwell club. He was educated at and played hurling with Athenry Vocational School before studying at Mary Immaculate College. Here Monaghan won back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cup medals. Monaghan made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he was selected for the Galway minor team. His tenure with the minor team culminated with the winning of an All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal in 2015. He subsequently joined the Galway under-21 team but has so far been an All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship, All-Ireland runner-up in this grade. Craughwell
Craughwell (historically ''Creaghmoyle'', from ) is a town and townland in County Galway, Ireland. Name The name Craughwell is also used as a surname, properly ''Ó Creachmhaoil'', though often anglicised as ''Craughwell'', ''Croughwell'' and ''Crockwell''. The surname was largely unknown outside of the southeast of County Galway until the end of the 19th century when émigrés established families which still thrive in Barbados, Newfoundland, Bermuda, Cornwall, Ohio and Berkshire County, Massachusetts, among other places. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. For the majority of its existence, the All-Ireland Championship has been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. The 2015 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 85th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship for players under the age of eighteen since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 8 April 2014 and ended on 6 September 2014. Kilkenny were the defending champions. 2017 National Hurling League
The 2017 National Hurling League was the 86th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. Clare were the defending champions, winning the title for the first time since 1977–78 after a 1–23 to 2–19 win against Waterford in a replay on 8 May 2016. Eir Sport (formerly Setanta) and TG4 provide live coverage of the league on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons respectively, with highlights shown on ''GAA 2017'' during the week. The 2017 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 130th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 23 April 2017 and ended on 3 September 2017. The draw for the championship was held on 13 October 2016 and was broadcast live on RTÉ2. Tipperary, the 2016 champions, were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. Meath fielded a team in the championship for the first time since 2004. On 3 September 2017 Galway won the championship following a 0–26 to 2–17 defeat of Waterford in the All-Ireland final. Walsh Cup (hurling)
The Walsh Cup ( ga, Corn Bhreatnach) is an annual hurling competition staged in Ireland by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) since 1954. Contested by the top county teams from the provinces of Leinster, Ulster and Connacht, the tournament consists of a round-robin group stage, followed by a knockout stage. Formerly ponsored by Bord na Móna, it was known as the "Bord na Móna Walsh Cup". Prior to 2018, third-level colleges also competed. The Walsh Cup is part of a series of GAA tournaments known as the Leinster GAA Series, along with the Kehoe Cup (second-tier hurling teams) and the O'Byrne Cup ( Gaelic football). The National Hurling League is an annual inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league.
