Thomas Graves (captain)
Thomas Graves (1802 – 28 August 1856) was an officer of the Royal Navy and Natural history, naturalist who worked extensively as a surveyor in the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean. Life Thomas Graves was born in Belfast in 1802 and entered the Navy in 1816. In 1827 he was promoted to Lieutenant (navy), lieutenant in HMS Aid (1809), HMS ''Adventure'', under the command of Philip Parker King surveying in South America, including the Strait of Magellan. A survey of Lough Neagh under the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty followed and was prosecuted in 1831 to 1832.' Royal Navy
The Royal Navy (RN) is the United Kingdom's naval warfare force. Although warships were used by English and Scottish kings from the early medieval period, the first major maritime engagements were fought in the Hundred Years' War against France.
